Dear Lovejoy Community,

I am honored to serve our community as Interim Superintendent. For the past 16 years, I have dedicated my career to serving the students and staff of Lovejoy ISD as Assistant Superintendent of Operations. Throughout my time with the district, I have seen its exceptional transformation in academic advancements and excellence in our quality programming for students.

My wife, Diane, and I have been married for 24 years. Our daughters, Natalie and Nicole, started their Leopard journey as Little Leopards. Our daughter, Natalie, graduated from LHS in 2019, and our daughter Nicole is a senior this year.

As a Lovejoy parent, I know our community is second to none. We are consistently recognized as one of the most respected public school districts in Texas, and we believe our best work and finest hours are ahead of us. We will finish the school year strong, achieving new heights in areas of academics, fine arts, and athletics, and we will continue to grow and advance our accomplishments in all areas.

It has been my lifelong desire to work in unity with a talented staff of dedicated educators and a supportive community who care about kids. I am confident that our district administration, principals, teachers, and staff will continue to do the highest quality of mission-driven work for each Lovejoy student.

I hope you and your family have a safe and refreshing spring break week.

Dr. Dennis Womack
Interim Superintendent

WSMS A Capella Choir earned Sweepstakes in both Concert and Sight-Reading this week at the Region 25 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation.

This week, the WSMS A Cappella Choir participated in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. The choir performed a concert of three different pieces and were judged on tone, technique, and musicianship. In the sight-reading portion of the contest, students were given a piece of music that they had never seen or heard before. They then had six minutes to study (without singing anything out loud) before performing it for the judges.

The A Cappella Choir received straight superior ratings on both concert and sight-reading, winning a Sweepstakes Award! Our singers were so professional and they performed so beautifully; they really represented Willow Springs well!

"As you can imagine, this school year has been especially challenging for our choir program--singing in masks and face shields is no joke! Despite all of the hardships, this group of singers has worked so hard and maintained such a positive attitude, and I am so proud of them!" (from director, Hannah Brewton)
WSMS Chamber Orchestra earned Sweepstakes in both Concert and Sight-Reading this week at the Region 25 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation.

The WSMS Chamber Orchestra received straight superior ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation at Allen High School earning them a SWEEPSTAKES AWARD!

Students performed a concert of three different pieces and were judged on tone, technique, and musicianship. In the sight-reading portion of the contest, students were given a piece of music that they had never seen or heard before. The director had seven minutes to teach the piece to the students without the orchestra ensemble reproducing any of the music. After the seven minutes of instruction, the ensemble played it for the judges and were evaluated.

"The students played beautifully and have worked so very hard in this unprecedented year! They have kept a positive attitude and I am so proud of how flexible they have been!" (from director, Ashley Dickens)
LHS Chamber Orchestra earned Sweepstakes in both Concert and Sight-Reading this week at the Region 25 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation.

The LHS Chamber Orchestra participated in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation this week. Since January, the students have had class approximately 14 times with the many holidays and unexpected snow week. We are very pleased to share this orchestra earned Sweepstakes for their Concert and in the Sight-Reading Room. Mrs. Vanhook and Mrs. Winkler are very proud of their students and appreciative of their families as they prepared music and excelled despite the many obstacles of the recents weeks and challenges of the school year. The students rose to the occasion and showcased their abilities this week. The performances were absolutely outstanding.

Lovejoy Varsity also competed in a WGI virtual competition and moved to Semi-Finals!
Mask Guidance

On March 2, 2021, Governor Abbott released Executive Order GA-29 lifting the mask mandate for businesses, effective March 10th.

On March 4, 2021, The Texas Education Agency updated its Public Health Planning Guidance which states:

Schools must comply with the following requirements:

  • Every student, teacher, or staff member shall wear a mask over the nose and mouth when inside a school building, school facility, facility used for school activities, or when in an outdoor space on school property or used for school activities, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household; provided, however, that this mask requirement does not apply to the following:
  • Any person younger than 10 years of age, except where a school system determines it is developmentally appropriate;
  • Any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a mask;
  • Any person while the person is consuming food or drink, or is seated in a dining area to eat or drink;
  • Any person while the person is: (a) exercising outdoors or engaging in physical activity outdoors, and (b) maintaining a safe distance from other people not in the same household; or
  • Any person while the person is giving a speech for a broadcast or to an audience.
  • The above mask-wearing requirements do not apply to any school system that was exempted from the face-covering requirements of Executive Order GA-29 during its effect due to a county judge attestation filed with the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
  • The governing board of a school system may modify or eliminate by formal action the above mask-related requirements.

Lovejoy ISD will continue to require the use of masks. On Monday, March 15th, the Board of Trustees will be discussing any potential changes to our current mask policy during the regularly scheduled Board meeting.

If there are any changes determined at that meeting, we will communicate those changes through our normal district communication systems (website, social media, and email distribution).

Please ensure your students wear their masks upon their return from Spring Break.
