JR's Weekly Column
Thirteen days and counting. Thirteen days until Election Day. Time to stand up and be counted. Time to let your voice be heard. Ok, enough, we know what to do. We’ve sifted through the information and disinformation, and we’re ready to cast our vote. No matter what party you represent or where you stand on the issues I applaud those of you who are running for office. This process can’t be an easy one to experience and subject yourself too. You're fair game for anyone who has access to social media and an ax to grind or a deadline to meet. Goodbye to any resemblance of a private life. Once you run for an office you give it up. So for this alone, I applaud you. But, it’s even bigger than this it’s your willingness to take the plunge, get off the sideline, put yourself out there for all to see that I applaud.

Now let’s do our part and vote. And, no matter who wins we need to accept t the wishes of the majority, get in line and support the choice made. That’s how it works. Don’t like it? Change it but do it with the mechanism in place to do so.

The Chamber’s 4th year of our Rising Stars scholarship program kicked off this morning. Congratulations to this first group of incredible students recognized for their contributions to their family, school and community. Their stories were compelling, heartfelt, and inspiring. Thank you to the teachers, counselors and principals who participate in this program giving of their time and energy to recognize these inspiring young students. Let’s never forget the many inspiring young people who lead lives strewn with obstacles and yet are not only able to navigate their way but willing to stand up and be recognized for their efforts. They set an example for their families, friends and all of us on how to live a life full of hope and promise for a better future.

Thank you to all of our sponsors for this program and if you too would like to support this program please reach out to the Chamber for opportunities.
Our upcoming November 2nd annual Golf Challenge is directly tasked with raising funds for the Rising Stars Scholarship program. If you’d like to help raise funds please contact us at the Chamber for options to do so. It’s going to be a socially responsible opportunity to enjoy a round of golf at Woods Valley CC and help support the Rising Stars Scholarship program.

And a huge thank you to Mona Durney our board member who leads this program of the Chamber.

Sincerely,

James Rowten (JR)
