Based on the Governor's announcement this afternoon regarding the closing of all Indiana schools until at least May 1, we are sending the GC Updates tonight. Dear Guerin Catholic Families,
This afternoon, Governor Holcomb announced that all Indiana schools will be closed at least through May 1, 2020, to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. We will provide more information and details on how this announcement impacts the Guerin Catholic Community in the coming days. Light in the Darkness
One of my biggest criticisms of the mainstream media is its bias towards sensational events since all media outlets share the same end goal of making as much money as possible. It is always important to keep this fact in mind whenever we read/listen to any news outlets because if we do not it is very easy for us to have a skewed outlook on the world. The world is not as dangerous, violent, unjust, etc. as the news makes it seem to be. Sharing the world with almost 8 billion other people means that the media can never possibly cover every human event in the world. Of course, recently all of the major media outlets have be united in their coverage of the Coronavirus and its impact on the global community. The news coverage is around the clock and there are times when it feels like things are changing by the minute.

Guidance Updates
We know that you may be going through some conflicting times right now. We know it can be a time spent with family, but at times can get stressful. We have put together a few researched based resources that may help you through this time with your child.
We also have put together an example of a schedule that you could use with your children. Providing structure with teenagers is a helpful skill that will help them with their soft skills of life. Please know that the school counselors at Guerin Catholic are available through email or a scheduled phone conversation. Service Hours
Dear Guerin Catholic families,
I know with our current situation at the school there are a great many changes and adjustments that we all must get used to. Foremost at the forefront of my mind as service coordinator is what to do about service hours. While service has always been important to the Guerin Catholic community, I nor anyone else want service hours to become a point of stress or anxiety during our global pandemic. The situation is ever-changing, but we have done our best to accommodate students in meeting their service hour requirements without it becoming a burden in light of a unique and unprecedented situation.
As of right now, the amount of service hours you are required to obtain, and their due date, has not changed. Service hours are still due by May 11th, and you are still required to obtain 30 hours of service before that date. Service Hour Expansion
Due to the unprecedented circumstances facing us at the moment, for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year service hours are being changed and expanded. One of the changes is the inclusion of Spiritual Growth and Family service hours. Spiritual Growth hours give you the opportunity to grow in love and charity without the resources available to you during a typical school week. Family service hours give you the opportunity to serve your family.
Our partner parishes have provided some wonderful resources for spiritual growth during this time and we encourage you to continue to follow their lead on staying connected as a faith community.

Indiana DOE Cancels Spring Assessments

The Indiana Department of Education announced today that all Spring Assessments are cancelled.
This include the ISTEP+.
