The Municipal Option Sales Tax (MOST)
MOST requires reauthorization and will appear on the Absentee and June 9, 2020 Presidential Primary ballots

The MOST is a 1-cent sales tax applied to generally all retail sales of goods purchased and taxable services performed within the City. It is one tool the City uses to finance the federally mandated Consent Decrees (Clean Water Atlanta Program) to replace the City’s aging water and sewer infrastructure and improve water quality while keeping water and sewer rates lower than they would be otherwise.

Initially approved by Atlanta voters in July 2004 and reauthorized by voters in 2008, 2012, and 2016, the MOST allows the City to spread the financing of the $4 billion infrastructure improvement program to visitors and business travelers who use our infrastructure every day but do not pay City of Atlanta water and sewer bills.

This not a new tax; it is reauthorizing the existing 1-cent tax.

The City estimates that the MOST has helped avoid 25% increases in water and sewer rates. The MOST makes sense for our City. Since 2004, the MOST has generated more than $1.876 billion to help ensure Atlantans a future of clean, safe drinking water and environmentally sound wastewater treatment.

Fire and Life Safety Message
According to a recent survey conducted by the safety science organization UL, nearly 60% of people sleep with their bedroom door open. That simple choice could mean life or death in the event of a house fire, as a closed door can slow the spread of flames, reduce toxic smoke, improve oxygen levels, and decrease temperatures.

Close Your Door:
A door is one of the best pieces of firefighting equipment; it can:
  • Reduce fire growth and spread;
  • Limit damage to your home/building; and,
  • Save lives.

Remember:
  • Close the bedroom door when sleeping.
  • Close doors behind you when escaping a room or building that is on fire.
  • Keep fire doors closed. Never wedge, disable or prop open fire doors.
