Updated Family Fee Information

Governor Newson has signed a state budget that waives parent fees for families enrolled in all Child Care and Development Programs administered by the Department of Social Services. This includes families enrolled with Child Action, Inc. The parent fees are waived from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

What this means for Child Action, Inc. parents:

· Parent fees will be waived for July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023

· Parent fees will resume July 1, 2023

· If you currently have a delinquent family fee plan, all repayment plans are on hold until July 1, 2023.

First Impressions Count When Exploring Child Care

One important step in choosing child care is to visit the programs you are considering. With so many great child care programs out there, choosing can be hard. Sometimes a place just feels right but defining the activities that create a welcoming and loving environment can help.

A Heart for Children

When a provider truly enjoys caring for children, they are warm and responsive to children’s needs. Nurturing care shapes a child’s ability to learn and helps them develop a sense of trust and security. When looking for quality child care, look for providers who:

•Cuddle, touch, talk to and listen to children

•Show respect for children by responding to their feelings and needs with nurturing and acceptance

•Celebrate children’s new skills

•Use a respectful tone of voice and sit or kneel down to get on the child’s level

A Heart for Parents

High quality providers want to develop a positive and respectful relationship with parents too. They will take the time to get to know each family. Look for providers who:

•Regularly talk to parents about their child’s development and learning

•Encourage parents to visit the program any time their children are in care

•Encourage parent participation

•Share information about conferences, family nights, and community resources

•Are sensitive to the separation anxiety parents and their child may feel

Marketing Tips for Child Care Providers

Attract New Business by Marketing Your Child Care

For many child care providers, summer can be a slow season with lower enrollment. It might be the perfect time to think about how you can promote your program. Whether you are an owner of a new child care business or a provider who has been caring for children for years, it is important to have a marketing plan. And if you’ve never considered marketing your program, take some easy first steps.

·Consider your interests and skills and what makes your program stand out. Create a brief statement that highlights your business.

·Look at your program from a parent’s viewpoint. Does it look inviting? Clean? Cheerful?

·How do you respond to interested families? Do you or your staff answer the phone professionally? Do you respond to questions promptly? Is your voicemail set up?

The Banana Festival is a fun event with an important cause. Proceeds of the event support the Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum's art programming, current summer and fall camps, senior programming, and youth docent programs.

General admission tickets:

Adults ages 18-64 $8 in advance, $10 at the gate

Children ages 6-17, Seniors 65+, Military with ID are all $6 in advance or $8 at the gate.

Book Review

llama llama mad at mama

llama llama mad at mama is filled with catchy rhymes and wonderful pictures. This book is a fun read for adults and for kids.

All the books in the Llama Llama series provide excellent examples of preschool age development and the impact that calm, patient, and loving adult interactions can have on children’s challenging behaviors.

Women's Equality Day is August 26th!

We all depend on hardworking women — moms, grandmas, partners, sisters, and friends. Take some time to thank them for all the physical and emotional labor they do for others!

Other ways you can celebrate women's equality:

Use your consumer power to support female entrepreneurs. You can find lists of women-owned businesses on the Small Business Administration’s website.

Women and their allies fought for decades to win the right to vote. Do your part to honor their sacrifices by making sure you’re registered to vote in your community.
