Habitat is Blessed with Our Faith Partners
Apostles Build is around the corner, and we hope to have you join us in Robbins beginning March 6th to build a new home for a great family.

In addition to Apostles Build, many local churches partner with Habitat year round in creative ways to support the mission throughout the year. One of these churches is Pinehurst United Methodist Church (PUMC). This generous church has provided several Christmas Eve donations to Habitat and has served as an Apostles Build partner for many years. They also team up with our repair program to provide critical repairs to elderly and disabled residents such as wheelchairs, and even the youth have helped support our mission through volunteerism and fundraising.
Longtime Habitat volunteer and supporter, Peggy Raney, is one of the PUMC members who help connect the congregation to area nonprofits and those in need. This month, we want to extend our thanks to Peggy for a special project she leads each year. At every Habitat home dedication, you will see gifts selected by the homeowner from what Habitat affectionately calls the “Methodist Closet.” As Peggy notes, “the items come from the Friendship Circle at PUMC. We do several mission projects each year and of course The Methodist Closet was born as a result of a project. Our circle ladies buy new items to donate to the new Habitat homeowners.” Thank you to the Friendship Circle members for their generous celebration with our home owners. It adds to the festivity of the event to see the gifts adorning their beautiful home.
We strive to find fun and meaningful ways for everyone to “build” with us at Habitat – if you would like to learn more about partnering your church with Habitat’s mission, please contact our volunteer Faith Relations Coordinator, Dan Joslin at 910-295-1799. Our monthly faith relations meetings are a wonderful way to hear how others are engaging their congregation to work toward a community in which everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home.

Habitat Happenings in Hoke

Habitat is proud to announce the Grand Opening of our Hoke County ReStore at 1304 Fayetteville Road, just outside of Raeford. On Wednesday, February 17th the Hoke County Chamber will be sponsoring a “Ribbon Cutting” at 10:00 am to welcome us to Hoke. All the net proceeds from our ReStore will be used in Hoke County for home construction and repairs.

Small donations of gently used household items are accepted during operating hours (Wednesday through Friday: 10:00 - 5 / Saturday: 10 - 3). We can also come to a donor’s home to pick up large or heavy items like pieces of furniture, by appointment. Call (910) 295-2798 or visit us online at sandhillshabitat.org to schedule a donation pickup for a large item.
The Hoke County ReStore is open for business
Wednesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Besides renting the new ReStore building from Mr. and Mrs. George Purcell, Habitat purchased about 13 acres of land from the Purcells. The property located off of Blue Springs Road has room for about 10 to 12 Habitat homes, plus an existing house the group plans to repair. Eventually that area will be a Habitat neighborhood named Purcell Village, in honor of the property owner who helped make it possible.

Habitat is seeking real estate property donations. You can help to serve our affordable housing program by donating real estate property (vacant land, residential home, commercial property) of any kind. Your donation can have significant tax advantages.

Please contact Farrah Pulliam at fpulliam@sandhillshabitat.org for more information.

From Our Partners at the O'Neal School
ONV/KC is a student-led volunteer club at The O'Neal School. In 2019, all the volunteer groups merged to form one cohesive group. ONV stands for O'Neal Volunteer, and KC is short for the Key Club. The club's goal is to provide volunteer opportunities to students both in the O'Neal community and our local community.
In the past, students have volunteered at the local Food Bank, organized blood drives, run a Halloween Carnival for the Lower School, run food and clothes drives, and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. A small group of students spent time with the residents at St. Joseph's of the Pines. With the current mask and social distancing regulations, this year's in our volunteer opportunities are more limited. Students have set up Halloween games for the Lower School, have supplied birthday cards for the Lower School students, and letters for the residents in our local nursing homes. Lastly, several juniors and seniors have been volunteering at Habitat for Humanity.

Calling all trades! Habitat is currently accepting bids on all trades in the building of new residential homes in Moore, Richmond, and Hoke Counties. Habitat currently builds 8-10 homes a year. Habitat, like other builders, bid out projects to be competitive in our building costs. This allows the affiliate to use our monies to build more homes in the currently volatile market. Several years of hard work, building our reputation as a leader in affordable critical home repair, has made it possible for us to take our repair program to the next level. We anticipate using sub-contractors on these large scale home repairs.

Sandra Thomas
ReStore Volunteer
Sandra Thomas was born and raised in the Berkley Community, now known as LA. (Lower Aberdeen). Ms. Thomas marriage ended in an unexpected divorce and raised two sons in her family home on her own. “I am so proud of my sons, their careers and the blessings of grandchildren and daughter-in-law.” She enjoys the company of her grandbabies, and the “grand” babies she takes care of at Grace Church where she also volunteers.

Sandra worked for Pinehurst Resorts for many years, as a server, dining room captain and room service operator. Sometimes she worked 60-80 hours a week and when she went on disability, she found it very difficult to stay at home so she started volunteering at Habitat. She has almost 2,000 hours of volunteering in the ReStore and as a office receptionist.

Ms. Sandra is one amazing individual. She runs the cash registers 3 days a week, 8 hr shifts. Sandra is always happy and full of joy, making our customers experience in the ReStore even more enjoyable.
