MEET THE TEAM: MMVWB YOUTH DEPARTMENT |
The MMVWB's Youth Department has switched gears into another exciting year providing Connecting Activities Services to Merrimack Valley's high schools.
Our team includes Programs Manager, Cristy Gomez, Coordinator Robin Delnegro, Administrative Assistant, Yeang Leng, and Youth Counselors Leah Sparks, Rosangela Amaro, and Yevette Garcia. All staff members provide ongoing career development education support in the form of career and work readiness workshops facilitation, case management, high school initiatives support, partnering with local employers, sharing of resources, referring students to community partners, and placing students in jobs. Our main goal is to expose students to fulfilling career awareness, exploration, and immersion opportunities.
Youth department staff are excited to offer various CA services and looks forward to continuing their collaboration linking classroom learning to the world of work.

MassHire Merrimack Valley Workforce Board continues to cultivate opportunities for young people , allowing them to find their agency and voice as they navigate success in school, after school, and beyond. Below, Tatyana shares about her experience with MassHire as a peer leader. talking about her growth in working alongside her peers and the difference she's made.
My experience with MassHire MVWB Youth Programs has been nothing but good. I have been able to learn new skills and improve upon myself because this job motivated me to keep focusing on my personal goals and aspirations. I’ve been a participant with MassHire for a total of 3 summers. During this time, I've worked as a Kitchen staff member, administrative assistant and most recently, a peer leader. Being a peer leader was a great opportunity for me to expand my network and gain insight into who I am and what kind of environments I like working in.
One of the greatest things about being a peer leader was having the ability to advise and help youth alongside their own personal growth. I was able to share some of my wisdom and guide them through problems they were facing. Being able to see people step out of their comfort zones will always invoke an applause out of me because I know it is never easy to do.
The main reason I like working with youth is because they have the potential to do great things. Youth are often undermined because of their age, but once you lock into their potential, you can encourage them to do great things and believe in themselves. Helping youth explore who they are and find their own passions will never not be rewarding.

This Spanish-language webinar, in collaboration with the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), will feature Hispanic-owned manufacturers sharing their export success stories. It will also include federal agency representatives outlining export promotion resources.

CONTINUING IN SUCCESS: YOUTH EMPLOYMENT & SUPPORT |
“MassHire Merrimack Valley Workforce Board is proud of Miguelina and Tyler, youth who secured on-going part-time employment after their summer work experience at Beach Pizza in Haverhill, MA.
Miguelina and Tyler each spoke to being able to come out of their shell and learn so many new skills, including being able to collaborate as a team to plan, prep and cook. They both acknowledged how much this job helped them grow in their communication skills, customer service experience and other transferable skills.
Both youth were thankful for how wonderful it was to have support from MassHire MMVWB and their supervisor. Miguelina was proud of her growth at her new job, sharing how good it felt to have customers say how delicious her fried dough was, even becoming known by customers.

INNOVATION PATHWAYS
The Center for Collaborative Education, in collaboration with The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, offers several networking events and assistance webinars to the Innovation Pathways Community of Practice. All events are free of charge to members of the Massachusetts Innovation Pathways Community of Practice. All 2021-22 Innovation Pathways events will be virtual unless otherwise noted.
Activities and modes of participation include: workshops, webinars, network convenings and more.

GIRL DAY VIA DISCOVER E
Girl Day (February 24, 2022) is a worldwide campaign to engage girls in engineering. Thousands of people - engineers, educators, and others - act as Role Models, facilitate engineering activities, and educate girls about how engineers change our world.
Key findings from DiscoverE's new report, Despite the Odds, found that this simple formula helps girls develop an interest in engineering, build their confidence in their problem-solving skills, and create a STEM identity.
