Since announcing our new name and website last March, we've unveiled a host of new and exciting online tools and resources for our members.

Now, we're turning our attention to our online Member Networking Directory. How can we help you network with other members, close to home and across the state? Our online Member Networking Directory can help us do all of that and more. But first, we need your help!
Every active member of the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative has a Member Profile on the members-only section of our website, known as the Member Center. Later this month, we will be emailing you with a special request to review your Member Profile and make sure it's up-to-date. Please watch your inbox for this very important email.

Raise awareness about ACA open enrollment
|
|
Help spread the word! Uninsured Wisconsinites have extra time to enroll in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), now through May 15.
This special open enrollment period was authorized by President Biden to help counteract some of the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, 15 million uninsured Americans are eligible for help through the ACA.
Covering Wisconsin has released a social media toolkit to raise awareness about this special enrollment opportunity. Use the graphics and fliers in the toolkit below, and help people in your community get the health insurance coverage they need.

CANCER SCREENING
Reversing the decline in cervical cancer screenings during the pandemic
|
|
The COVID-19 pandemic has put many routine medical procedures on hold, leading to a decline in cancer screening rates, including cervical cancer screenings.
Cervical cancer can be successfully treated when found early. According to the American Cancer Society, about 14,480 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed in the US throughout 2021.
Health care systems can take several steps to reach patients who have missed their routine screenings, including those for cervical cancer. Enhancing efforts to reach overdue patients, evaluating higher risk groups first, and using innovative technologies such as telemedicine can help more patients receive the cancer screenings they need.

TOBACCO CONTROL
Report: Wisconsin can do a better job of reducing tobacco use
|
|
Wisconsin's approach to tobacco control has plenty of room for improvement, according to the 2021 State of Tobacco Control report recently released by the American Lung Association.
This annual report evaluates state and federal progress on tobacco control laws and policies that have been proven effective to save lives. While Wisconsin received an A grade for its smoke-free air policies, the state earned a D grade for its current tobacco tax, as well as F grades for its tobacco prevention and cessation funding, the access it provides to cessation services, and its sale of flavored tobacco products.

CANCER POLICY
Preview: New Policy Agenda will help members address pressing cancer issues
|
|
The Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative is excited to announce the upcoming release of our new Policy Agenda 2021-2022.
The Policy Agenda is as an educational resource that h elps our members understand the connections between cancer prevention and control efforts and legislation, ordinances, and policies on the federal, state, and local levels of government.
Developed by the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative’s Policy Committee and approved by our Steering Committee, the Policy Agenda 2021-2022 identifies six goals drawn from the Wisconsin Cancer Plan 2020-2030, as well as specific policies and initiatives.
The new Policy Agenda 2021-2022 will be published in the upcoming March issue of Policy Review, our quarterly cancer policy newsletter for members. See below for a preview!
2021-2022 Policy Goals:
- Increase availability of and access to comprehensive health insurance coverage.
- Decrease tobacco use and exposure to tobacco.
- Increase access to cancer prevention vaccination services.
- Reduce barriers to cancer screening and increase insurance coverage for diagnostic testing.
- Reduce cancer costs incurred by patients and families.
- Ensure access to quality palliative care.

Colorectal Cancer Screening: 2021 Update
|

|
Join us as Dr. Durado Brooks, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the Screening Business Unit of Exact Sciences Corporation, outlines the state of the science around colorectal cancer screening.
Topics will include: epidemiologic trends in CRC incidence and mortality; demonstrated benefits of screening; CRC screening rate trends and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on screening; disparities in CRC screening and outcomes; discussion of similarities and differences between the screening guidelines from the ACS and the USPSTF; evidence supporting specific testing methods.

Primary care providers play a critical role in providing follow-up care for cancer survivors, including addressing many of the physical, psychological, practical, informational, and spiritual challenges that can arise after the completion of cancer treatment.
Clinicians can learn about caring for survivors of adult-onset cancers through this series of ten enduring online educational modules.
