Your weekly news & updates
Dear Residents -

Every few years, the residents of Pearl River and the surrounding areas are reminded of the brutal murder of Paula Bohovesky. The Petition for Paula is in full swing and, while the Town Board has passed a Memorializing Resolution to keep Robert McCain behind bars, we are asking the public for help. We would appreciate it if you would sign the petition that will be sent to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYS Parole Board).

If you haven't yet signed up for our Hunger's 5K Heroes race, to be held on Saturday June 5th, please consider registering for it. More than 40 million Americans live in households that are food insecure, which means that they don’t have the resources to regularly acquire nutritious, safe food. Food banks are almost always in need of nonperishable food items, but most people only turn their attention to feeding hungry people around the holidays. Won't you join our race and help eradicate hunger in Orangetown? If you don't have the time to walk or run, think about making a donation to the cause. A donation of $100.00 or more will get your name or business on our souvenir t-shirt.

With Mother’s Day on Sunday and spring upon us, you may want to get over to the Palisades Community Center Plant and Gift Sale tomorrow and buy a plant for a mom, a dad, a neighbor or even a Town Supervisor!

Enjoy your Mother's Day weekend!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

She has shared the wealth with all those in her office and appreciates the time and effort it took to raise the funds to earn the cookies and then to make a personal delivery. Thank you Ella, Juliana, Celina, Ava, Sarah, Alex and your leaders for your generosity, it is very much appreciated.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Motorcycle safety: LOOK TWICE AND SAVE A LIFE

Because vehicle drivers control a much larger machine, it is imperative that they keep close watch for motorcyclists who may be riding nearby. Drivers may follow these tips to prevent a fatal crash with a motorcycle:

• Never drive distracted or impaired.
• Check all mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles before changing lanes or merging with traffic, especially at intersections.
• Always allow more follow distance—three to four seconds—when behind a motorcycle. This gives them more time to maneuver or stop in an emergency.
• Though a motorcycle is a small vehicle, its operator still has the same rights of the road as any other motorist. Allow the motorcycle the full width of a lane at all times.
• Always use a turn signal when changing lanes or merging with traffic.
• If you see a motorcycle with a signal on, be careful: motorcycle signals are often non-canceling and the motorcyclist could have forgotten to turn it off. Always ensure that the motorcycle is turning before proceeding.
