THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Sunday, December 6 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

“Stillness” is our Soul Matters theme for December. Where do we find stillness in the tumult of life? What does stillness look like? What does it feel like? Is stillness passive, or is it a state of heightened awareness? Through poetry and music, Rev. Caplow and our worship team will explore this theme, as we enter the month of December and the darkest time of the year.

UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES
REV. SALLY FRITSCHE
Sunday, December 13 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

Bread, in one form or another, dates back to humanity’s earliest settled civilizations, and it sits at the center of countless rituals, comforts, and controversies. Come learn about how our Unitarian and Universalist forbearers understood the ritual of breaking bread, and join our multi-faith community in considering how our heritage and traditions might continue to feed us today. If your family enjoys a traditional bread or baked good, this Sunday will be the perfect time to get that old recipe out and eat along at home!
MICHELE GROVE, EMILY MCKOWN
Sunday, December 20 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

Even though the Christian holiday of Christmas receives most of its attention on December 24th and 25th, there is a great deal to experience during the four weeks leading up to this sacred holiday. Advent is the 4-week season of preparation, anticipation and waiting which leads us to Christmas. It is a season where persons practice patience, reflection and giving. Michele Grove, Emily McKown and a host of surprise guests will lead us in this worship experience. Do you want to know more? Patience, friends…Patience. All will be revealed.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Matthew Gladden Moving On From UUCUC

Matthew Gladden, our extraordinary accompanist for the last six years, and more recently, Assistant Music Director, has decided that he would like his weekends for family and other activities. His last Sunday will be December 6th, so please tune in to our livestream, where he will offer a few words to the congregation. He will be sorely missed, by the staff, the worship team, the choir, and all who have been moved and inspired by his beautiful music. You can send cards to him care of the church, and we will make sure they get to him, and you can also write on his kudoboard here. We hope to have him back as a guest musician on special occasions!
Urgent Message from Care Core: New Home Needed for 'Dancer' the Dog!

Several months ago, one member of our congregation needed emergency hospitalization & then needed long-term rehabilitation so we were asked to help find a temporary home for her dog, a Chihuahua. For the past 3+ months, Pat & Mindy McClard have generously and kindly provided that home for Dancer. They are no longer able to house Dancer because their daughter is allergic and our church member is not going to be able to return to her own home. Her family has asked us to solicit a new home for Dancer before having to make the decision to take him to the Humane Society. If you are interested or want more information, you can contact Pat McClard at 319 486-8942 for details. Please respond by December 4 so the family can move forward with a decision about Dancer and we can relieve Pat’s daughter’s allergies. Thank you!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

By mid-December, a host of new adult religious education programs will be promoted to begin in January and February 2021. The next semester promises to be just as exciting as the fall semester. If you are one of the 98 adults who participated in one of UUCUC’s adult learning experiences, please tell others about your experience. These classes are not restricted to UUCUC members and friends. The community is encouraged to attend. Read more.
OUR CARING CONGREGATION
OPPORTUNITY TO HELP

Dear UUCUC Community,

As you put together your giving plans this holiday season, please consider donating to the Little Free Pantries run by Julie Laut and AJ Herzog, which they have kept active daily since late spring. In order to address increased and unique needs this winter, they have created an Amazon wish list. All items will be delivered to Julie's house and shared between the two pantries. Donations of all items will continue to be accepted as usual at both locations, if you want to bring them in person.

Thank you for your support and generosity,
Julie and AJ
GROCERY DELIVERY AVAILABLE

If it would be helpful to have someone deliver groceries for you, we have several folks who have volunteered to do this. Contact Julie Laut at: jlaut@hushmail.com or 513-544-2682 & she’ll put you in touch with a volunteer.
UUCUC'S "BUDDY SYSTEM"
Staying connected while
UUCUC facilities are closed

During this time of social distancing, staying in touch and checking in with each other is going to be very important. We hope you will consider being part of our "Buddy System" so we can care for one another.

You can sign up here: https://uucuc.breezechms.com/form/2184f1. Buddies will check in with each other regularly by phone to provide connection, companionship, and connections to help if needed. This is a great way to help each other.
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, November 29.

From David Gross: Two sorrows. I have two relatives positive with COVID. A cousin, age 45, who lived in our home off and on in her University of Illinois years, now in San Francisco, has been a COVID “Long Hauler” positive for about 80 days before recovering. A very difficult path with many trips to the ER. Now, her father, age 82, another cousin, is COVID positive and in a small hospital in western Illinois. The larger hospitals are full and not accepting transfers. I have not been with either of these individuals this calendar year.

From Chuck and Jan Cooper: A joy to share from Thanksgiving day. Chuck's son, Nic, and his wife Krista, delivered a grandson, Wesley Cole. Everyone is healthy and WE ARE ELATED!

From Jim and Sandy Hannum: We are grateful for the wonderful music Matt Gladden has given us over many years. Love and best wishes for the next chapter in your life!

From Debra Karplus: JOY that Sari Karplus (my daughter) has recently completed writing her children's book, Robotastic!, which is now selling on Amazon.

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service each Sunday. They will be read aloud.
