Cleveland Heights' Cain Park Awarded Grant Funding from Ohio Arts Council

OAC to Invest More Than $200,000 in Cleveland Heights,

A Home to the Arts

Cleveland Heights, OhioCleveland Heights Mayor Kahlil Seren announced today that the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) has awarded the City of Cleveland Heights $16,524 in grant funding to support the fantastic summer arts, music, theater, and dance programming at Cain Park.

“Eighteen Cleveland Heights organizations were rewarded more than $200,000 in grants, proving once again that Cleveland Heights is home to the arts,” Mayor Seren said.

Cain Park’s outdoor Evans Amphitheater and the indoor Alma Theater are both ensconced in 22 acres of beautiful park space in the middle of Cleveland Heights. The City of Cleveland Heights has owned and operated Cain Park for 84 seasons, making it one of the nation's oldest municipally owned outdoor performance spaces.

So far this year, Cain Park’s season has featured world-renowned entertainers Ben Folds, Belá Fleck, Chris Botti, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and a presentation of the hit Broadway musical School of Rock. Cain Park also welcomed more than 100 artists from across the country to the 45th annual Cain Park Arts Festival, which drew more than 12,000 visitors over three days.

Cain Park closes its 2022 season with a two-week production of Sondheim on Sondheim directed by Cain Park Artistic Director Joanna May Cullinan. Hailed as a “revelatory revue full of wonderful moments” and a “funny, affectionate and revealing tribute,” Sondheim on Sondheim paints an intimate portrait of the famed composer Stephen Sondheim with two dozen of his songs.

August performances include concerts by the one-and-only Melissa Etheridge, Marcella & Her Lovers, Livingston Taylor, Apollo's Fire, and Cleveland’s own Jim Brickman, and a special dance performance by Rennie Harris Puremovement. A full season calendar may be found at cainpark.com.
