We hope you are as excited as we are for this year's International Education Week, taking place November 15-19. In this newsletter, you'll find the details and registration links for a variety of events happening on campus and off-campus, in-person and online.

All events are open to everyone: domestic, international, graduate, undergraduate, staff, and faculty, unless otherwise indicated in the event description.

We also have a few campus reminders and updates for you, including the immunization requirement that is due soon.

Global Programming
UCSC: International Education Week Events
Pre-IEW: Student & Alumni Networking Adventure Hike
Date: Saturday, November 13
Time: 10:00 - 17:00 PST

This hike is sponsored by the Experiential Leadership Program.

These 4-8 mile adventures are a great opportunity to meet fellow students and alumni, and share stories about school, life, and the professional world.

We'll also review map reading and basic outdoor skills.
International Education Week Kick-off

We are kicking off International Education Week with a bang! Swing by our table outside of the Colleges 9 &10 Dining Hall.

Celebrate our campus’ global diversity with international treats with our community, and enjoy some internationally themed meals and desserts.

Peace Corps Information Session
Date: Tuesday, November 16
Time: 12:00 - 13:00 PST

Join this online session to learn about volunteering and working abroad after graduation through the Peace Corps.

Note: the Peace Corps is only available to US citizens.
UC Santa Cruz on Native Land: Popeloutchom and the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band
Date: Tuesday, November 16
Time: 19:00 - 20:30 PST

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, come to hear about the indigenous peoples of the Santa Cruz and larger Monterey Bay Area, the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band.

Members of the tribal band, together with staff from UC Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History will share with us about the Amah Mutsun Relearning Program and the conservation of Mt. Umunhum, and will lead us in an online discussion of intercultural environmental connections and indigenous ethnobotany in our own local communities.
Going Global at UCSC

Join us online to learn more about Studying Abroad or Away as part of your UCSC degree.

Global Learning will share international and domestic global learning opportunities, how to fulfill degree requirements, manage costs, use financial aid, find scholarships, and begin your journey.
Story Circles
Date: Wednesday, November 17
Time: 19:00 - 20:30 PST
Location: Namaste Lounge

Story Circles offers an opportunity for people of different backgrounds to come together and learn about cultural similarities and differences through different conversation prompts.

Sharing is by choice, and not required. All UCSC students, international and domestic, are invited. Come and share your personal story and learn from others, as you make and grow intercultural connections.
Global Mingle
Date: Thursday, November 18

Join us for this two-part mix-and-mingle event at the Museum of Art and History, and Woodstock's Pizza.

MAH Tour Time: 16:30 - 18:00 PST
Woodstock's Pizza Time: 18:15 - 19:30 PST

We will be offering a private guided tour of the current MAH exhibits, followed by a pizza dinner at Woodstock's with good food and good company.

Please register for the tour and dinner separately. We ask that you register by November 11 so we can give an accurate headcount to the venue.
UCDC Information Session

Join Global Learning in this online session to learn how you can jumpstart your career by participating in the UCDC Washington Program.

This is a domestic global learning opportunity open to all majors.
Chinese Names Pronunciation Workshop
Date: Friday, November 19

Learn the fundamentals of reading Chinese names and practice with native-speaking staff members and students of Global Engagement through this online workshop.

Hosted by Global Learning Intern Hsinyun "Kiki" Shen and Global Mentors.
Film Showcase: La Haine
Date: Friday, November 19
Time: 19:00 - 21:00
Location: Namaste Lounge

Join us for a screening of the French film "La Haine," which tackles race relations and police brutality in France.

After the screening will be a discussion about the themes depicted in the film.

Important Immunization Update
Did you get an email on November 1 from the Student Health Center, indicating that an enrollment hold has been placed on your account?

If so, you need to take immediate action to be able to register for Winter Classes.

Get Your Flu Vaccine!
The University of California issued an executive order in October, requiring flu vaccination for all students, faculty, and staff who learn, live, or work at a UC location. The deadline for obtaining and verifying compliance is Friday, November 19.

"Global Perspectives on Anti-Asian Racism: Overcoming The Hate” Webinar Series
While anti-Asian racism has already existed globally, the reemergence of geopolitical tensions, inequities, and even violence are now in sharp focus because of the COVID-19 crisis and has revealed the rising and rampant hate.

This is a critical time for understanding and serious dialogue. Bringing together university students, experts, and leaders, APRU universities are creating a space to share knowledge and experience to have difficult conversations across the Asia-Pacific region. This dialogue is designed to open the door for more understanding of racially targeted hate and the ways that these ideas circulate and influence our daily lives.
