March's Theme is Commitment
Hello Families,

It's spring equinox time. I always feel so full of joy and gratitude on the solstice and equinoxes. It's such a good reminder for me of the balance and rhythms of the natural world. And spring especially is so full of hope and wonder, as new life begins to spring forth. I hope you will join me in celebrating this week.

And for your convenience, all past newsletters can be found here on the UUCSC website

A Spring Equinox Celebration
I hope you will join me in celebrating the spring equinox! I recorded this video in the back yard of UUCSC where we have snow drops blooming and daffodils pushing up their green leaves! I show you a special egg ritual to celebrate spring and show pictures of our egg balancing tradition, as well as walking spirals and meditative labyrinths. What special ways to honor the coming of spring.
Stories for RE
Picture Books
The Invisible Web, by Patrice Karst, author of The Invisible String. This second book continues the metaphor of being connected by an invisible string, and extends it to include the entire web of life.
A New Beginning: Celebrating the Spring Equinox, by Wendy Pfeffer. This talks about what changes are seen in the natural world, as well as historical ways that different cultures have celebrated and still celebrate spring.
Chinese New Year's Dragon by Rachel Sing is an "own voices" book, meaning it's written (and in this case also illustrated) by someone who is from the culture that is represented in the book. A great introduction to Chinese culture through this popular celebration.
Mindful Moment
A Spring Equinox Ritual

Please join me in celebrating spring by watching this week's video and then doing the egg ritual yourself! Here is a written explanation of the ritual.

And if you feel so inspired, come visit the backyard of UUCSC and walk our lovely spiral. Or make your own on the beach with stones!
Soulful Connections

And here is a sleepover video from another UU congregation, to give you an idea.
It's a Stuffie Sleepover in RE!
Your stuffed animals and dolls are invited to a sleepover! Even though we can’t be there in person, our stuffed animal and doll friends can! After a quarantine period in their cozy bin, the animals will explore all the inside and outside spaces of UUCSC and play together, just like you did when you came to church! They'll even have an Easter egg hunt! And their animal chaperones will take lots of pictures so that you can hunt for the eggs in the pictures on Easter Sunday!
Sunday Zoom Time
We are expanding our offerings, so I hope you can make it to some of the following:

EVERY SUNDAY, 9am-9:30: Kid Circle Time. We have a lovely, simple time together, sharing Roses/Buds/Thorns, singing a song.

THIRD SUNDAYS, 9:30-10am: Adult Sharing Time. THIS SUNDAY! We will continue our discussion about raising anti-racist children. If you'd like to read this short article, it will be a jumping off point for our discussion. If you don't get to it, no worries! Come anyway :)

LAST SUNDAYS, 9:30-10:30: CartUUns!
Pictures from the week
Signs of Spring!
We found these eggs on the beach at Rome Point. Who do you think laid them?!
And below are crocus buds right outside of RE!
Inman and his mama, Lacey and their dog, Ada discovered a bunch of macroinvertebrates and even a baby salamander (below) in the stream by their house. It's a sign of good water quality to find these mayfly and caddisfly larvae!
Juniper, Nula, Melinda and John have new baby chicks at their house!
