Honoring Memorial Day
How are you honoring Memorial Day this year? Normally this holiday weekend in Ossining is filled with events honoring those who fell in battle as well as those who serve us each day in our community. Sunday morning OFD fire chiefs, chaplain, and a minimal color-guard visited the cemeteries. This morning a few local veterans will hold a small service. To avoid a group gathering the public has not been invited. Today's event is planned to be recorded and shared via YouTube and social media as soon as it's available. Over the past several years I have come to know and admire so many of the people who make these events and our community special. I miss seeing them today and hope they are well.

Tomorrow the Mid Hudson Region will begin a phased reopening. Industries included in phase one must establish a safety reopening plan in compliance with the guidelines provided by the state. Click here for details about what industries will reopen and the guidelines that are part of that process.

Last week's village board meeting opened with a discussion about proposed new legislation to protect wetlands in the village. Additionally we moved forward expansion of online permit applications for the clerk's office. This time of social distancing has magnified the need for local government to provide residents with the ability to conduct business online. This Week's Meeting
This week's meeting includes a renewal of our discussion about a new events policy and associated fees. It will still be some time before folks are encouraged to gather in large groups, and when they do we will be ready. We will also pick up where we left off last week in our discussion about wetlands legislation. Click here to read this week's full agenda .

Even before phase one begins in our region tomorrow, we are already experiencing a shift in how people engage with the world outside their front door. Beautiful spring weather and increased access to beaches and other activities that allow for social distancing are welcome progress. In order to keep on this path, we must consistently practice social distancing, wear our masks when we cannot stay at least six feet from others, and wash/sanitize our hands frequently.

I look forward to seeing you virtually, from six feet away, or with our faces covered!

With Regards,
Victoria Gearity, Ossining Mayor
