Community

We’re dedicated to continuing to support small businesses – and your regulars are dedicated to continuing to support you. We’ll help you let them know you appreciate it with a variety of dynamic new assets.

Remind them they can get money back in the form of a statement credit
You can remind already-enrolled customers that when they Shop Small with you – both in-store and online – they can redeem the special American Express® offer up to 10x, through 9/20/20.

Your Small Business Owner Toolkit has digital resources to help get the word out to your regulars, and beyond.

Thanks,
The Shop Small Team
There is a beautiful new mural in the works, a panoramic of a Petaluma sunset above the Keller Street garage. The artist selected to complete the piece is Ryan Petersen. Painting will begin on the Telephone Alley side of the Keller St. Garage in a few weeks.

The project will have some impact on traffic and business that we wanted to bring to your attention. The City will be blocking the alley for part of each day so that Ryan can power-wash the wall and paint the mural from a boom lift. This would begin daily after early morning garbage pickup, etc. Also, Ryan can move the boom for truck passage with a bit of notice.

The Concourse pedestrian entrance to the garage will be blocked and pedestrians will be redirected to another route for approximately one month. This is for general public safety during mural installation and because Ryan will be painting one section of mural on the inner walls of the entrance and sprucing up adjacent surfaces with new paint. Additionally, we will block one row of angle parking on the garage roof to prevent any overspray from falling on parked cars. Everything will be clearly signed and marked for visitors.

If you have any questions about the project planning please contact Steven Huss, Public Art Specialist at 707-778-4387 or email [email protected].
River Dredging Update
From the Director of the Public Works and Utilities Department
Exciting times are ahead as we finally ready the river for dredging. The Contractor plans to begin dredging on September 4th and has 89 days to complete the project. The work in the upper river portion should be completed by the end of October while the flat's portion should be completed by end of November.

The contractors will begin at Shollenberger Park and then work downstream towards the bay to address some spots of shoaling along the channel. From there the contractor will go upstream from Shollenberger to finish up at the turning basin.

The BID committee is working with Joel from Basel Ganglia Studio (see photo from the Argus on the right) on designs for the stairwell walls in the Keller St. Garage. Petaluma Visitors Program
What's happening with the PVP
Many people aren’t aware that the Petaluma Visitors Program operates under the Petaluma Downtown Association. Because the historic downtown district is one of Petaluma’s strongest tourism draws, there is a lot of synergy between the two organizations. The PVP is funded by a Tourism Improvement District which is a 2% assessment on short-term room rental revenues.

Here are a few highlights of the programs managed by the PVP:

  • The 2020 Petaluma Visitor Magazine is here! Thank you to all the businesses and organizations that partnered with us for the 2020 Visitor Magazine. Your participation helped produce a stunning publication that highlights the people and places that make Petaluma such a great place to visit! When the time is right to encourage travelers to our area, it will be a highly effective marketing tool.

  • The free magazine is available to visitors through our website VisitPetaluma. Check out the digital edition here. This week, we started delivering the magazine to local business. We want you to have copies on hand to give to your customers and clients. If you’re not sure if your business is on our delivery list or you would like to have a box of magazines, email [email protected]. There are 60 magazines in a box; there is no cost to receive the magazines.

  • Submit Your Virtual Event to VisitPetaluma.com. We might not be able to gather at fairs and festivals but that doesn't mean Petaluma is going dark! Let people know about your virtual events. Don't miss out - "events" is one of the most searched terms on the Visit Petaluma website. The link to submit events (both virtual and in-person) is here.

  • Visitors Center is now Open Weekdays 10am-3pm. Now that hotels are open to leisure tourism, we have opened the Visitors Center (with limited hours). Our door is open but if you prefer, you can get information on Petaluma, Sonoma County, and the SMART train schedule, directly from the literature holder that is outside the front door. It’s contact-free and available 24/7!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to [email protected] or Marie [email protected] if you have any questions. We look forward to a time when we can re-connect in person. In the meantime, be well!
