- DAILY PULSE: We’re now three days into Phase II of reopening the state. Give us your thoughts on the timing of our reopening here.
- WHAT YOU TOLD US: Friday’s Daily Pulse explored the effects of the work/life balance of local businesses. Of all respondents, half said the changes that have happened as a result of the pandemic had made it easier for them in some ways to balance life and business and allowed them to make more time for life in general. 16% said that the changes had made it easier for them in some ways to balance life and business and allowed them to make more time to spend on their business. 16% said that the changes that have happened have made it harder for them to balance life and work, and that their businesses have required more of their time. 16% said the changes have not affected their ability to balance life and business.
- MAIN STREET LENDING PROGRAM BROADENS CRITERIA: The Federal Reserve Board on Monday expanded its Main Street Lending Program to allow more small and medium-sized businesses to be able to receive support. The Board lowered the minimum loan amount, raised the maximum loan limit, adjusted the principal repayment schedule to begin after two years, and extended the term to five years, providing borrowers with greater flexibility in repaying the loans. The Board expects the Main Street program to be open for lender registration soon and to be actively buying loans shortly afterwards. More info can be found here. - LATEST CASE NUMBERS: Alachua County has had a cumulative total of 399 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases since the county’s first confirmed case 90 days ago. For more information, visit the City’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

- The Rock School was featured in RedefinED for the way they reimagined the educational experience during the COVID-19 crisis.
- The Meldon Law Cares program has donated over 2,000 meals from local restaurants to hospital workers and first responders since April.
- The Cade Museum is reopening this Friday and Saturday with limited capacity. To reserve your tour, go to bit.ly/cadetours.
- Visit Gainesville shared a grant program they have for those holding meeting/event/conference in our area. Up to $10,000 grant available. Deadline: July 31st for events through September 2021. For more info, contact [email protected].
- CBS 4 has partnered with the Alachua County Schools to provide a virtual graduation for each of the seven area high schools. They are not only airing them, but also posting them on their website for family and friends to see after.
- Touching Hearts at Home will work with community partners and assisted living communities in Gainesville and Lake City to collect donations to “Donate Donuts for Seniors & Dementia.” Now thru June 22, they will work to gather donations to donate Krispy Kreme donuts to our seniors and healthcare heroes in approximately 15 senior living communities.

No Small Matter is a feature-length documentary film and national engagement campaign that brings public attention to this vital question by sharing powerful stories and stunning truths about the human capacity for early intelligence and the potential for quality early care and education to benefit America’s social and economic future. This multifaceted project reveals how our country is raising its youngest citizens, why making the most of this time in their lives is so crucial, and most importantly, what we can do to change the perception of when learning begins. The first major theatrical documentary to tackle this topic, No Small Matter is designed to kick-start the public conversation about early care and education. The ultimate goal: to produce an entertaining, accessible, and inspiring film that redefines the audience’s understanding of the issue and helps drive it to the top of the political agenda.

The Digitization Age: A conversation with Jaime Casap
Wednesday, June 17, Noon - 1pm
We were living in extraordinary times. Digitalization has impacted our lives for a few decades now and it will affect all segments of our world at some level of degree. We are at the very beginning of the digitalized age and the pandemic is only going to expedite its growth. To prepare for this future students need to understand the role digitalization plays and develop the critical human skills required for this new age. The idea of “lifelong learning” has been around for a generation. Still we haven’t ever really put in practice to make this idea a reality. We have the tools and technology to bring lifelong learning to life our students will not survive the future without the ability to learn new skills continually. In his presentation he explores these ideas and make a case for the ability to learn as the most critical skill students need to master.

POLICY UPDATE
2020 Census Update
As of May 31st, Alachua County is just a bit under the national average for Census count--59.8% of us have completed our Census, with the national rate at 60.5% and Florida's overall rate at 57.9%. Let's move that needle, Greater Gainesville! If you haven't completed your Census, take a minute to do it today. If you have, continue to spread the word to your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.
Paper questionnaires have been mailed to all households, or use your favorite device to respond at
https://my2020census.gov/
. Remember to count members living in your household on April 1st. Also underway at this time are institutional counts--from colleges, senior centers, prisons, hospitals--and those will continue through mid-June. Because of the pandemic, Census takers will not be visiting households that have not yet responded until August 11th, and those efforts will continue until October 31st. Visit

WCJB TV20 announced this week that the station delivered impressive ratings increases, year to year, across all dayparts for their newscasts. WCJB TV20 saw increases of over 50% in many newscasts including Noon, 5PM and 11PM. This is an amazing achievement from a station that has been the market leader for almost 50 years.

Suzanne Norris named executive vice president of Millennium Bank, president of Florida branches
Suzanne Norris has been named executive vice president of Tennessee-based Millennium Bank and president of the bank's recently acquired Florida branches, previously owned by Columbia Bank. Norris will manage operations at the bank’s five locations in Lake City, Gainesville and Ocala.
"Suzanne brings a tremendous amount of leadership to the newly expanded Millennium Bank team," said Mike Haskew, president and CEO of Millennium Bank. Education Station & Preschool opens second location at Tech City
Education Station & Preschool is now open and accepting new students at their second location at Alachua Tech City, as of June 1.
Education Station allows for care and
instruction to children between 6 weeks and 5 years old. Their
philosophy is based on years of education, experience, and research. They believe that given the proper environment, nurturing, and tools all children can grow and develop into successful adults, and want to provide that environment for families in the Gainesville area.
