PAINT NIGHT
To recognize the herculean effort that our staff has demonstrated during this year's pandemic, Bais Yaakov Preschool and Elementary held its first-ever "Paint Night," a program designed to allow our staff members to have a creative and relaxing experience. The artistic instruction was led by our very own Miss Debby Weintraub and Mrs. Hinda MoskovitzMrs. Chana Ciment decorated the auditorium and created an exquisite ambiance. These evenings were filled with camaraderie, inspiration, and tranquility. "I never painted before, and it was so much fun," "I was so relaxed," "This is amazing" could be heard both nights. Each participant left the campus with a beautiful masterpiece. The evenings were a resounding success ending on an upbeat note with words of inspiration by Mrs. Chani Hendler.
SECOND GRADE CHUMASH PLAY - "IN QUARANTINE"
This year's Second-Grade Chumash play will be presented virtually due to the Covid pandemic. The classes have begun recording the play to share with their families. In order to best include our students currently at home, Mrs. Liora Rosen, our Limudei Kodesh Coordinator, and Mrs. Yocheved Roth, our graphic artist, developed a phenomenal idea. Life-size images of the absent students were created, each one adorned in "crown and cape" like all the other students on stage. We then "zoomed" with our quarantined students during the play practice. This way, they feel that more involved in the excitement.
READING BOOKS - COOKIE STYLE
We are excited to launch our annual Second Grade reading program this year, "Read Your Way to a Cookie Party"! This year-long adventure is the brainchild of Mrs. Rivky Anisfeld, and we hope that it encourages our Second Graders to read and enjoy many books. We have simultaneously introduced a "Book Buddy" program to help students read with a high school student, courtesy of our high school Gmach program. For every book that a student reads, she places a cookie sticker on our beautiful cookie jar. The number of "cookies" tracks the total number of books read by the entire grade.
BAIS YAAKOV FIRST GRADE SIDDUR PLAY IN PERSON
We are excited to announce the much-anticipated milestone in our students' chinuch – the First Grade Siddur Play! Having mastered their Kriah skills, each girl is looking forward to this momentous occasion, the day that she will receive her very own precious Siddur! In order to facilitate social distancing, seven different plays are being scheduled. Each of the Siddur parties will be live-streamed for those who can not join in person. For the past several years, family members have watched from around the world, generating a great deal of excitement.
SOCIAL STUDIES REVIEW - SONGS AND MOTIONS
Here is a sneak peek into class 2F's exciting Social Studies unit with Miss Shevy Mellman! The girls are learning all about finding locations on maps and globes. To help the students remember the information, music is used as an instructional strategy. See how well the students know the 7 continents and 5 oceans by watching this video.
KINDERGARTEN SHABBOS UNITS
The wintery weeks between Chanukah and Tu B'Shevat are a special time for the Kindergarten girls to learn all about the different aspects of Shabbos - hadlakas neiros (candle lighting), challah, kiddush, havdalah, and much more. Many classes create heirloom projects that their families can use for years to come. These include besamim holders, kiddush cards, and challah covers. The class creates a Shabbos cookbook which is often the most popular cookbook in their homes! In addition to learning halachos and minhagim, the girls learn Shabbos zemiros and even have their art classes dedicated to creating drawings of a Shabbos table.
