President's Message: Spring Semester
As WKU's spring 2021 semester began Tuesday, President Timothy C. Caboni shared a message and video with the campus community: "Today we begin what I hope is our final semester living and working alongside the COVID-19 virus on our Hill. With vaccine availability increasing each day, we are optimistic about a gradual return to normalcy during the next six months. However, we are not there yet. While the coming weeks may test our patience, our resolve will not be deterred. We demonstrated this past semester that we can continue to fulfill our university’s mission. As we kick off spring 2021, my ask of every member of our campus community is simple and can be viewed here."
QatarDebate, WKU sign agreement
WKU and QatarDebate have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will provide a basis for future cooperation to spread the culture of debate and discussion in the Arabic language at WKU and in the United States. “The relationship between QatarDebate and Western Kentucky University is rooted in an infinite quest for knowledge," President Timothy C. Caboni said. "We value critical thinking in the rigors of reasoned discussion, through constructive and open dialogue.” Students in WKU's Arabic Program participated in the QatarDebate-organized International Universities Debating Championships in Doha, Qatar, in 2017 and 2019.
Updates from the Provost: Looking Forward
As we prepare to begin the spring semester, I wanted to share with you some important news. As you know the past year has been remarkably challenging, each of us dealing with the burdens and difficulties created by COVID-19 and a global pandemic. On top the professional hurdles, like many of you, I also have dealt with significant personal challenges. After much thought and careful consideration, I have determined that I want to explore the new opportunities that the flexibility of retirement might offer to me personally and to the WKU and Bowling Green communities. While I have enjoyed my work at WKU, I do not feel comfortable making a commitment to you and the university to continue in an administrative role for another four years. I have shared with the president my intent to retire at the end of the fall semester and that I will not return to the position of Ogden College Dean.
