Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Messages From Superintendent Hill
No 3rd Trimester Report Cards to Be Sent Home
In keeping with recommendations from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), during remote learning our staff has worked to provide meaningful feedback to students on their work, but they have not kept formal standard scores or "grades". Because remote learning began just weeks into the 3rd trimester, we will not be providing standard scores for the 3rd trimester, and as such, we will not be sending home report cards at the end of this school year.

All students will be promoted to the next grade level. Report cards will be included in student files, and the note "No standard scores are given for 3rd Trimester based on Spring 2020 ISBE guidelines pertaining to COVID-19" will be added for this trimester.
Parents Asked to Visit Child's School for
Supply Pick Up / Drop Off on 5/26 & 5/27
Last night all parents were emailed information about our Student Supply Pick Up / Drop Off, scheduled for 5/26 and 5/27. Review the following image for an overview of the 7-step process, and check your email or visit your child's school website for more details.
As you consider Step 1, I strongly advise you to choose to keep your child's device throughout the summer if you are able. We will be providing recommended educational resources that students and families can engage with throughout the summer.

To ensure an efficient process, please be sure to complete Step 2 by filling out the linked form by Sunday, May 24.
Final Day of School 5/27
As some students will be returning their CCSD93-owned devices on Tuesday and Wednesday, our teachers will be posting remote learning assignments that do not rely on technology for the final two days of school. After May 27, our students will be off for the summer. Look for more information on recommended educational resources students and families can engage with throughout the summer on May 27.

Highlighting CCSD93 Distinguished Educators
Miss McGill & Mr. Kelmendi
CCSD93's Distinguished Educator Award is a peer-driven honor for which all CCSD93 staff members are eligible to be nominated by colleagues through a detailed application process. Applications are judged against a rubric, and those who standout most based on the criteria are selected as winners. Today we highlight the final two CCSD93 Distinguished Educator winners from this year.

While each application explored the nominee's impact on students and their school in great depth, here are just a few highlights.
Jessica McGill - 1st Grade Teacher, Carol Stream School
The application written for Jessica McGill focuses on her dedication to all students as a collaborative lifelong learner who takes on and shares professional development opportunities throughout her building and with the district. In addition to her team, Jessica works with her school's Instructional Coach and Innovation Media Specialist, serves on numerous school and district-level committees, has participated in CCSD93's Independent Study program, has worked with Discovery Education to pilot innovative learning opportunities, regularly is involved with book studies and LEAD courses, teaches at STEM/Innovation Camp, and volunteers to help students at summer programs. This involvement and constant commitment to PD, combined with her organization skills and creativity, enables Jessica to provide "student-centered education by allowing students to make choices, believing in their ability to learn, and making learning fun." She maintains a pulse on her students' social and emotional needs, effectively employing best practices to personalize and differentiate instruction and manage student behavior, truly keeping students at the center of all she does.

Congratulations, Miss McGill!

Shaqir Kelmendi - Head Custodian, Elsie Johnson School
The application written for Shaqir Kelmendi highlights not only his dedication to maintaining the building as an optimal learning environment for all students and staff members but also in contributing positively to the school's atmosphere through interpersonal skills and connections. "Responsive to all needs, big and small, that come up throughout the building on a day to day basis," Shaqir works passionately and with dedication to keep Elsie Johnson's building running smoothly. With students, Shaqir is known as a problem solver who is "always willing to lend a hand to students in need, coming up with creative and fun ways to motivate them through difficult situations." As a prime example of his dedication to students that goes above and beyond the call of duty, Shaqir goes so far as to connect daily with students who particularly need movement breaks and bring them to the lunchroom to assist in cleanup.

Congratulations, Mr. Kelmendi!

D.A.R.E. Graduates Receive Special Visit
Yesterday and Tuesday, Cloverdale and Roy DeShane 5th graders were able to celebrate graduation from their virtual D.A.R.E. program with a special visit from Carol Stream Police Officer Pablo Castro, who also serves as Jay Stream Middle School's resource officer and CCSD93's D.A.R.E. officer. Officer Castro distributed DARE t-shirts with some extra flair: by launching them to students with a t-shirt cannon borrowed from Glenbard North! What a terrific way to celebrate a commitment to staying drug and alcohol free! Check it out!
