My friend,

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL
I joined Fox News this week to discuss the latest impact Mayor de Blasio's vaccine mandate is having on dozens of FDNY companies across New York City, including five in my district.

This is now a life or death situation for New Yorkers. I urge the Mayor to reverse this mandate immediately before someone is hurt as a result. If not, I fear the consequences will be dire.
I was joined by Staten Island resident and Senior Citizens Advocate Claudette Duff while participating in a roundtable with House Republican Whip Steve Scalise, several of my GOP colleagues, and representatives from the energy industry.

We discussed the dangers of the Natural Gas Tax set to be included in President Biden's reconciliation bill that could raise Americans' energy bills anywhere from $85 to $242 per year, on top of the 54% increase in heating costs expected this winter.

This tax, on top of already rising energy costs, would be particularly harmful to our seniors who are more frequently losing their homes to forclosure and often have little financial wiggle room.
IN THE DISTRICT
I invited WWII Vets Charlie and Teddy to my Staten Island office so they could meet. I recently helped Teddy get his citizenship papers and organized a car parade for Charlie’s 100th birthday. They hit it off and I hope they continue to share their stories about the war, family, and life!
I was honored to join the Ollis family as New York City unveiled a new Staten Island Ferry in honor of their son and our hometown hero U.S. Amry Staff Sergeant Michael H. Ollis. This Ferry honors Michael's ultimate sacrifice for our nation and will serve as a reminder to all who ride and see it that freedom is not free.
As a member of the Coast Guard-Maritime Subcommittee, it was great to meet with U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York - the nation’s largest - to see their homeland security operations and go over the Staten Island based station’s needs. Thank you to our coasties for all they do to keep New York Harbor safe!
I joined New York Knicks alumni Charles Smith in distributing new backpacks to students in Stapleton and Park Hill. Thank you to Madison Square Garden for coming to Staten Island!
IN THE NEWS
Will supply-chain delays affect Staten Island seawall project?
A crucial infrastructure project designed to protect Staten Island’s East Shore from coastal storms will run out of funds due to COVID-19 pandemic-related supply-chain delays and shortages that have raised the cost of construction, a bipartisan group of lawmakers said.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand penned a letter to leading officials at the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) calling for the agency to use federal funds recently made available by President Joe Biden to keep the project known as the East Shore seawall on-track.
NYC’s plan to scrap Gifted & Talented program is ‘outrageous,’ say some Staten Island officials
Several Staten Island elected officials and parents gathered outside PS 8 in Great Kills on Tuesday to express their opposition to New York City’s plan to scrap the Gifted & Talented (G&T) program in elementary schools, instead urging the expansion of the program into more public schools citywide. I'm committed to making sure this misguided decision is reversed.
