Durham Tourism Industry Report
August 2022
Feast On the Farm
Feast On the Farm, produced by the Culinary Tourism Alliance, is a unique two-day event series bringing together chefs, producers and food lovers in different parts of Ontario.

Each event consists of one consumer day, followed by an industry day; and showcases the best of Ontario destinations, local food and beverages, and top chef talent. The Feast On the Farm consumer day supports recovery in the hospitality sector, as it assists as a fundraiser in covering the costs of the industry education day.

Durham Tourism is thrilled to be hosting the consumer day event on September 18 and the industry day event on September 19, both at Slabtown Cider Co. in Uxbridge.

Purchase your tickets now by visiting OntarioCulinary.com/FOnFarm/.

Student orientation event
Looking for part-time/student workforces for your business?

A community effort is underway to host a welcome party for every post-secondary student in Oshawa on September 10th, and we want your business to get involved!

In operating this student orientation event, we're inviting thousands of incoming post-secondary students from Durham College, Ontario Tech University, and Trent University Durham GTA into Oshawa’s downtown core to have some fun and get to know their new community.

It’s a perfect recruiting opportunity for part-time work and even co-op/intern placements within your business for the coming academic year!

The main events will be taking place around the McLaughlin band shell in Memorial Park during the day of the event. We’d love to help your business set up a spot in our Employers’ Alley where you can do some recruiting, share information, conduct on-the-spot interviews or maybe even make your next hire.

When you’re ready to commit or you’d like to speak to someone from the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce team, please fill out the employers’ alley registration form.

Volunteers are also being recruited to support the event and the sign up form can be found here: https://bit.ly/3SCa6qa.
Mike Shoreman and Canada's Great Lakes Crossing

Mike Shoreman is a local Durham Region mental health advocate, published author, International Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Man of the Year in 2020 and 2021, and a Canadian Disability Hall of Fame Nominee.

His passion project, Canada's Great Lakes Crossing, began in 2021 to raise awareness and money for youth in crisis. He will be the first person with disabilities to cross all five Great Lakes on a SUP this summer. He has already successfully completed Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and is planning Lake Ontario on August 19 and 20.

Come out to cheer Mike on and celebrate his historic crossing of the five Great Lakes, as he returns to Durham Region's Port Whitby Marina on August 21, 2022 at 2 p.m.

Bring your whistles, noise makers, horns, loud cheering voices, signs and smiles!

Want to join Mike on the water? Bring your paddle board, kayak, canoe, etc. and launch from the beach to help bring Mike in to shore!
