What does it means to be a woman?

Being a woman means sharing a special connection that extends beyond race, age, sexuality, political opinions and physicality. It is something that bonds us together on a level that only women understand. It is having the ability to love fully and care for and nurture things around us in a way that women have in strides.

The dictionary defines a woman as “an adult female human being” while purpose is “our reason for being and for what we do.” It is why we are here on the earth. Each one of us has a unique purpose in life and it is up to us to discover our purpose and to fulfill it.

Traits such as nurturance, sensitivity, sweetness, supportiveness, gentleness, warmth, passivity, cooperativeness, expressiveness, modesty, humility, empathy, affection, tenderness, and being emotional, kind, helpful, devoted, and understanding have been cited as stereotypically feminine.

A Woman is a natural fighter - she learns to fight for her own freedom, to decide what she desires and opts to achieve in her lifetime. No matter what adversity she faces, she learns to adapt and overcome, get back up and fight even HARDER!

Although every woman's personal life purpose will be different, a woman's true-life purpose in general is to understand who she is and to create her own destiny. She should cherish her passion, drive and ambitions to excel to new heights so that she can be an example to others. A woman should always seek fulfillment, growth and ways that she can continue to be a contributor, to herself, family, friends and co-workers.

This month’s newsletter will focus on Women’s History Month. Articles include a recording covering our recent Town Hall Meeting, an introduction of our Director at Large, Tara Brown, and ways to participate in the #ChooseToChallenge campaign to support diversity. In addition, read the poem Phenomenal Woman as written by the late Maya Angelou. Describe your role & what you love about it.

In my role as Director of Human Resources at Charter Communications, I get to work with employees at all levels of the organization. After being with the company for 14 years, I can say that I have probably had contact with most areas/departments. I love the opportunity to learn about our organization directly from customers and employees and find ways to make improvements for everyone’s experience. In my role in Field Operations, I work directly with frontline customer and employee issues and this has given me invaluable experiences. I have learned a lot about telecommunications in general. I love the group that I work with now; it is supportive and I always feel part of the team. This is what I love most about my role at Charter Communications.

How many other women inspired you or helped shape your career?

I have had many women that have inspired me over the years at work and in my personal life. The woman that inspires me the most and continues to shape my career is my mother. She was also an HR Director. I never planned to be in Human Resources while in school - it was something that happened by chance after college and became a career. My mother has helped me through every part of my life. I hope that I will be able to inspire my children in the same way as she has inspired me. I have also had a lot of women at Charter Communications that have inspired me in different ways, some that are still here and some that have moved on. There are too many to name but I’m grateful to have the experience to work with so many inspiring women.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I’m definitely in the right industry, I love reality television.

Why do you think WICT is important?

I think WICT is important because it provides an excellent resource for training and development geared toward women. I have had the opportunity to take advantage of some of the training programs that WICT has offered and they have provided an invaluable experience for development as well as networking. In addition to leadership development, WICT provides a good source for technical knowledge for people that are new to telecommunications.

Where do you hope to see the WICT GO chapter accomplish this year?

I would like to see the chapter continue to provide value added opportunities for leadership development and financial literacy for women. I think financial literacy is a key skill for everyone to have, especially women.
