Cary Reads

The Library just launched a new email newsletter called Cary Reads which details some selections that our Cary Staff is currently reading, listening to, or watching. It includes some things we like, and some we don't, but covers all ages of media: Children's, Young Adult, and Adult.

Adult Summer Challenge

Get out of your reading comfort zone and have some fun this summer by playing for the chance to win a gift card! This program begins on June 25 and runs through August 19, with a winner picked every week (limit 2 prizes per contestant).

Visit the main floor Circulation Desk and pick up your Summer Learning Bingo card next to the self-checkout machines. Cross off the spaces on your bingo card as you read books and explore what the library has to offer. When you have filled in at least one complete horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, drop your card in the entry box. For an extra entry, leave us three book recommendations on the back of the bingo card. These recommendations will be featured on our Idea Wall in the Living Room at the end of the summer!

Summer’s a great time to remind you about Cary’s terrific Museum/Recreational Pass Program, which offers free or discounted admission to dozens of local attractions. It just got even better with the addition of two new passes we’re excited to tell you about!
Our first addition is the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. Not only does it house the hoops Hall of Fame, it’s also a high-energy, interactive museum dedicated to the history of basketball and all the greats who have made important contributions to the sport since it was invented using two half-bushel peach baskets as the “nets.” You'll be amazed at how far the game has come since then!
Our second new pass is to Blithewold in Bristol, Rhode Island. Set on 33-acres overlooking Narragansett Bay, Blithewold is renowned as one of the finest examples of a summer estate built during the Country Place Era. During this period, wealthy Americans who had seen elaborate gardens in Europe started landscaping their own estates in a similar fashion. Blithewold showcases a meticulously preserved 45-room mansion surrounded by a series of lovely gardens, each commissioned by the original owners to have a different “character.” Whether your interest is historical preservation or horticulture, Blithewold is sure to inspire you!
The Museum/Recreational Pass Program is funded by the Friends of Cary Library. We invite you to visit www.carylibrary.org/museum-passes for details on all the fun passes we offer and how to reserve them. If day-trips and cultural visits are in your plans this summer, we have you covered!
