Habitat's mission endures because of the millions of people who have made it so. Thanks to your continued support, dirt is already moving on our next lot in preparation for the laying of the foundation of another Habitat home in Denton!
The future homeowner of this upcoming build is Shonbray Johnson! Shonbray, single mother of six children, has always felt like the odds were against her. In May of 2013, her life changed forever: an F5 tornado ravaged through their hometown of Moore, OK, and caused her to be trapped under a building for 3 hours and lose mobility in one arm. With the help of physical therapy and her young children's support and care, she recovered from this tragedy and left everything behind to bring her family to Denton, TX, where the family of seven rented a one-bedroom apartment at first.
Over the last 8 years, Shonbray was determined to put herself through college and even worked two jobs at one time to make ends meet. Her motivation was making sure her children didn't miss out on the enjoyment of life due to her being a single parent. She is now enrolled in nursing at NCTC and has worked at an electrophysiologist's office here in Denton for three years. Shonbray has worked hard to overcome life's challenges and to be where she is today.
With a little help, we all have the potential to stand on our own. Here at Habitat, we help people reach the potential that is and has always been within them by providing access, tools, and opportunity. Soon, Shonbray will be able to provide a foundation of strength, stability, and independence for her family through the building of her very own Habitat home.

On August 1-3, members of our team joined Habitat affiliates from across Texas for a three-day conference to learn about nonprofit best practices to help adapt and thrive in an ever-changing environment. The Lone Star Summit featured different break-out sessions, in addition to an opening reception, keynote speeches, networking opportunities, and more. One of the keynote speeches was delivered by Habitat for Humanity's first volunteer, Clive Rainey! After learning practical skills from other Habitats and being inspired by Habitat's amazing mission, we are more equipped than ever to build homes, communities, and hope right here in Denton County.

Meet the ReStore's amazing Warehouse Associate: Gary Morgan! Gary joined our team about 18 months ago. Gary can fix just about everything and enjoys honing these skills at the ReStore. His main responsibilities are to test new donations, like appliances, for proper functionality before putting them on our sales floor. Gary enjoys working toward Habitat's mission to build affordable housing for local families and knowing that each day will bring a new project to work on. We are so grateful to have him on our team! Say "hi" to Gary next time you drop off a donation at the ReStore!
The ReStore has new store hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM on Tuesday - Saturday at 1805 Cornell Lane, Denton, TX 76201.

We are raising funds to develop 8 acres of vacant land in Southeast Denton and establish a new "Habitat Village" housing development on the property. As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.

From now through September 17, you can adopt a duck for the Duck Derby at Cross Timbers Rotary Club's Rhythms at the River Walk fundraiser! For each duck we sell from Habitat Denton's personal web page, Cross Timbers Rotary Club will donate one "Buck-A-Duck" ($1) to Habitat Denton!
Thank you, Cross Timbers Rotary Club, for this fun way to give back to local nonprofits!
