Congratulations on surviving the first week of homeschooling! I know that there have been many challenges and we appreciate everyone's understanding that teachers are learning right along with your children on how to manage everything online. The district has been working diligently with Schoology to resolve the connectivity issues. On Thursday, the teachers were given some guidelines to follow through the 10th when the company hopes to have everything resolved. We have strongly encouraged teachers to pre-record lessons so students can watch at their convenience and to only have conferences open for questions. They have also been asked to limit their time on Schoology between 10am and 2pm, which are the peak times. Together we will get through this!
As many of you know our Athletic Director, Matt McCool, lost his son Rhett last Sunday night in a car accident. Rhett graduated from Nease last year, so many of your children know him. The counselors have posted some handouts on how to deal with grief on their Schoology pages in their Mental Health folder. There is also a PowerPoint in the Guidance section below. Losing a friend is always hard, but not being able to attend services for closure will make this more challenging for some. Remember that our guidance counselors all have office hours and appointments available if your child just needs to talk.
The deans are contacting parents of children who have not engaged online this week. Students are not in trouble. The deans are supporting the teachers by reaching out to families to determine why students are not working and how we can assist. We want your child to be successful, so please tell us how we can help.

How to Opt-in to Receive Notifications
1. From your mobile device, Text “Yes” to 67587. You should then receive a response text message stating, “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications”.

Below are several resources to help you and your child with online learning.
Please take a few minutes to read the helpful PowerPoint created by the Nease Guidance Department.
Below is a link to a weekly organizer, if you feel this would be beneficial for your child.
Parents, do you have questions about Schoology, such as how to create an account?
Students CAN do conferencing on their smartphone only if they log into Schoology through the web browser on their phone (Safari, Chrome, etc). Most kids have the Schoology app, and the app can do everything except the conferencing portion.
Student and parents should access Schoology through our school webpage under “Links for Students”
If a Google search for Schoology is done, then you will not have the necessary credentials to be able to access NEASE'S Schoology site. Please ensure you are using Chrome or Firefox with Schoology as Internet Explorer does NOT work well.
Information that we have received regarding required testing & grades.
Question & Answers from FL Department of Education
Q: How does the cancellation of state assessments impact students?
A: The answer will vary based on students’ placement within their educational journey.
Current seniors: If a senior is expected to graduate in spring 2020 and has not met the exit criteria for Algebra I EOC and/or Grade 10 ELA FSA, or earned a concordant score, this criteria will be waived. However, students still must earn the necessary credits and meet the GPA requirements to graduate.
Non-seniors: The Department is waiving the requirement for non-senior students who are currently enrolled in a course that requires an EOC to take the associated EOC. However, non-seniors who have yet to pass the Grade 10 FSA ELA must still meet the exit criteria by passing that assessment during a future administration or earning a concordant score. Though non-senior students enrolled in the EOC course of Algebra 1 are not required to take the Algebra 1 EOC, they must still meet the mathematics assessment graduation requirement by either passing the Algebra 1 EOC (offered four times each year) during a future administration, earning a concordant score, or passing the Geometry EOC during a future administration.
30% for final grade: For students currently enrolled in courses that include a statewide EOC to be factored into the student’s grade, this requirement will be waived. Districts have the discretion to determine whether district-developed EOC assessments are necessary for these courses for the 2019-2020 school year.
Q: Will students receive grades for the spring semester while they are in a distance learning environment?
A: Yes, although campuses are closed, school is still in session and students are still earning grades. Districts will incorporate the process for assigning student grades in their instructional continuity plans.
