Reminders, Announcements and Administrative Updates 
  • Apply to be a Student Ambassador! The Admissions Office is looking for positive and enthusiastic students to connect with prospective students. Connecting with current students is one of best ways for prospective students to get an idea of what it’s like to be a student at NUSL, and we need your help to bring in another great class! Your contact information (email) and a short bio will be published on our website if you are selected. The Admissions office may also contact ambassadors to volunteer for information sessions and other prospective student programming. If you are interested in applying, please fill out our Student Ambassador Application. If anyone has any questions, please contact Katie Ambler in the Admissions office.

  • JD/MPH programs: All students who are interested in applying to either the JD/MPH program with the Bouvé College of Health Sciences or the program with Tufts University School of Medicine, as well as all students who have already been admitted into one of the two programs, should sign up to be on coop this coming summer, as students need to go on co-op the summer before beginning their MPH students. There will be an information session about the JD/MPH program in the winter; applications will be due in the spring quarter. If students have any questions about either program in the meantime, they should contact Prof. Parmet at w.parmet@northeastern.edu.

  • Students confronting unexpected situations that result in missing a significant amount of class, like a COVID diagnosis, should email Dean Millay at K.Millay@northeastern.edu

  • Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers: LCL provides free and confidential mental health resources, addiction recovery support, and practice management services. LCL is a non-profit organization not affiliated with Northeastern University. LCL is now offering dedicated office hours for NUSL students!   • New COVID Policy: Serving food and drink in designated eating areas or at events and meetings is permitted—for example, food served in break rooms or conference rooms, or at meetings, trainings, receptions, or other events. However, people should continue to follow the mask mandate and only remove their mask indoors when actively eating or drinking. Eating and drinking is not permitted in classrooms while class is in session.

  • Professor Swanson would love to meet in person any and all of her Fall 2020 students, especially – but not limited to – Green Team Property! Please send her an email if you would like to arrange a time just to say hello and/or talk property/IP/law school, etc.


  • Join Women in Corporate! Formed this past summer NUSL’s new club, Women in Corporate, is a space at NUSL for women to support other women in their academic and professional careers who are interested in working in the corporate field. We plan to host meetings, provide mentorship, and put on events focused on the experience of being a women in corporate law today. If you are interested in joining, please fill out this form, here

  • WLC Listserv: To stay up to date on WLC events, 1L e-board elections and our mentorship program, we are asking both new 1Ls and returning upper level students to please fill out the the following sign up form: https://forms.gle/5jRFr3XwttLP7Tih7 . We hope to see returning members and new members of all classes at our events this fall!

  • Queer Caucus Mentorship Program: QC is taking submissions for our mentorship program! 1Ls, please complete this quick form to sign up for a mentor. Upper-levels, please submit this (also quick) form to be a mentor for 1Ls. After we have received your response, we will send an email to pair mentors and mentees. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at queercaucus@northeastern.edu

  • Join the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association Mentorship Program! APALSA has a mentorship program for 1L students who want to connect with an upper-level student who is also API identifying! Mentors can assist you with navigating 1L. Please see the mentor bios on this page and fill out this form to indicate your mentor preferences

  • The Middle Eastern and South Asian Law Student Association (MESALSA) is currently recruiting both JD and LLM students who identify as Middle Eastern or South Asian. MESALSA members will be able to join monthly meetings, study sessions, cultural events, and a mentorship program in which 1Ls will be paired with Upper Level mentors. You can view your available credit balance in your myNortheastern portal by selecting Services and Links > Student Account, Payment, and E-bill Information.   • Co-op & Career Deadlines:
  • Full-Time 1Ls should submit their Fall 1L Surveys (including their co-op rotation preference) by the end of the day today, 9/20. Questions? Please contact lawcoop@northeastern.edu
  • The Main Deadline for Spring 2022 collecting co-ops is Wednesday, October 13th at 11:59 PM Eastern.
  • The next Summer 2022 collecting co-op deadlines are October 26th, December 1st (default deadline), and January 19th.

  • Fall Add/Drop Deadlines: The deadline to add fall upper level classes is September 22. The deadline to drop classes (without a “W”) is September 29.

  • LLM Symplicity Training: Monday 9/27, 12:45 - 2:00 pm. Mandatory for all LLM students who will go on co-op in Spring 2022. In this session led by members of the Co-op Office's Operations Team, you will learn all about using the online Symplicity system to search for and apply for co-op opportunities. We will discuss the whole co-op process, including applications, interviews, offers, and final placements. In addition to the co-op process, we will review how to use Symplicity to research employers, make appointments with advisors, and access resources. More details will follow by email.

  • You are invited to join the Northeastern University Asian Studies Program for the university-wide speaker series, Asia America and the World. The recent upsurge in anti-Asian violence and bigotry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic has attracted renewed attention on a long-standing problem. This inaugural series invites a diverse slate of scholars from different disciplines—history, sociology, political science, and anthropology—to address critical issues confronting Asian American communities from a global or transnational perspective. For the first event, Dr. Russell Jeung, who will be giving the talk "Anti Asian American and Pacific Islander Hate in the Time of COVID-19" on Monday, September 27, from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.   • Equal Justice Works 2021 Conference and Career Fair: October 21 - 23, 2021. A virtual Public Interest Job Fair open to current students, 3Ls, and recent grads! The conference features 200 public interest employers who will conduct virtual interviews for Summer internships and post-grad positions, and informational "Table Talks." Students must register for the conference before applying to open positions. The deadline to apply for the pre-scheduled interviews is September 13th. Learn more here

  • Professor Blaine G. Saito seeks to hire a research assistant for the fall semester with work study funding or class credit. The RA will focus on researching issues in tax and other policy areas as well as various governmental institutions. Candidates should have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.   • Professors Ari Waldman and Pat Williams are looking for one or two research assistants (for credit, for work study, or neither ... all are welcome to apply) to do substantive sociological, media, and legal research on issues related to abortion, critical race theory, anti-vice laws, and surveillance. Ideal RAs would have excellent credentials and research skills and a demonstrated passion for and interest in civil rights, privacy and surveillance, and social justice.   • Northeastern Law has been invited to collaborate on a project with the Solomon Center for Health Law and Policy at Yale. The project is part of a partnership btwn the Solomon Center, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the University of Trento (among other universities) to review legal challenges to governments’ COVID-19 response measures (mask mandates, restrictions on gatherings, etc.). The Solomon Center is serving as the project’s U.S. representative, collecting and summarizing major cases. These case summaries are expected to be published in a publicly accessible database. One of the project’s main goals is to describe and compare how different countries’ court systems balance public health needs with other individual rights. Prof. Claudia Haupt is the liaison btwn the NUSL cohort and the Solomon Center. RAs would work with Prof. Haupt to assist in collecting and reviewing additional cases and drafting and editing case summaries. Hours will be flexible in the upcoming semester as there is a lot of work to accomplish on this project in the coming months. Work-study is preferred, but there may be funding available through the NUSL Center for Health Policy and Law.

Opportunities for Student Distinction
  • The Boston Patent Law Association is currently seeking submissions for their annual writing competition. This is an excellent opportunity for students in the First Circuit to receive recognition for an IP-related writing piece and win a cash prize. The deadline to submit papers is September 30. More details on the competition are available on the website: https://www.bpla.org/page/49.   • The Hon. William C. Conner Writing Competition was established by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA) to recognize exceptionally written papers that are submitted by law students and is presented each year at the Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. The competition is open to students enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program (day or evening). The subject matter must be directed to one of the traditional subject areas of intellectual property, i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade practices, antitrust, and data security/privacy issues. Entries must be submitted electronically by Sunday, February 27, 2022, to Richard Brown, rbrown@daypitney.com. Find more information here.

  • The NLR Law Student Writing Competition offers law students the opportunity to submit articles for publication consideration on the NLR Web site. No entry fee is required. Applicants can submit an unlimited number of entries each month. Entries are reviewed October through May, when school is in session. Entries must be submitted via email to lawschools@natlawreview.com by 5:00 pm Central Standard Time by the last day of the month.

  • Northeastern University Law Review is accepting student-written submissions for publication in Volume 14, Issue 2. Submissions should be between 10,000 and 15,000 words (including footnotes) and follow a standard law review-style format. Please email your submissions to submissions.nulr@northeastern.edu

  • Northeastern University Law Review's online counterpart, Extra Legal, is accepting article submissions from faculty and students. Extra Legal aims to publish legal commentaries that support legal professionals and facilitate discussion of emerging legal issues. Submissions should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words and written as a formal Law Review article. Extra Legal is looking for responses to current events. More information can be found here.   • The Law Review Online Forum is accepting submissions from students to write a piece on any legal, policy, or current events topic of their choice. The Forum provides an opportunity for NUSL students to publish an article, gain writing experience, and express their views!
