Why Do We Worship The Way We Do?
This Sunday, February 16, after both services, led by Jude+
Do you ever wonder why some cross themselves, or kneel, or sit or stand during worship? Do you ever wonder why the service is organized the way it is or why certain people say certain things? Do you wonder what happened to using the prayer book and the hymnal? Or, more importantly, are you curious about how the theology of worship has shifted over the last 30 years? Come along to Jude+'s meetings to find out!

What Is Ash Wednesday?
Ash Wednesday is a central part of the season of Lent among many Christian groups. Lent is a religious time period of 40 days before Easter. The purpose of Lent is to draw people’s focus to prayer, repentance, and renewal of faith. The 40 days are representative of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness being tempted. We are marked with ashes on Ash Wednesday because ashes symbolize that humans were created from dust, and will return to dust and ash when they die. This belief, however, is offset by the belief that the death of Christ allowed for people to be more than simply dust; it allowed for an eternal life in heaven, outside the body!

Scholarship Outreach - Designs for Dining
Friday, March 6, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Our Designs for Dining invitations are available for you to pick up at church after services, or in the church office. We don't mail invitations to the parishioners in order to save postage. If you can't make it to church and need one mailed to you, call the church office and we mail one to you. Also, think of friends and neighbors that you might want to give an invitation to - the committee is planning a very fun day, with speakers, boutiques, silent auction (including a 6 days, 6 night photo safari to South Africa - with 2 game drives a day included). Delicious food is included throughout the day, including a light lunch, all as part of the ticket price, $45 in advance and $50 at the door.

Last Chance – Chez Melange
Chez Melange restaurant in Redondo Beach will be closing at the end of this month after 37 years in business. Chef Robert Bell has supported our St. Francis Outreach Scholarship Fund and our annual event, Designs for Dining, for 13 years by speaking at our fundraiser and donating sensational dinners for 12 at Chez Melange with accompanying wines. Some of our parishioners have been lucky winners.

Anyone interested in going to a St. Francis night at Chez Melange to show our support, please email Cheryl Gutierrez or call 310 621-3532. Thinking of Friday night, February 21 or 28 - pending availability in the restaurant.

Chef Bell will be speaking at Designs For Dining again this year on March 6, 2020 regarding his 37 years at the restaurant. This year his donation is dinner for 12 with accompanying wines at his other restaurant, Mama Terano. Chef Bell has a new restaurant opening on March 1 in Redondo Beach called Pacific Standard Prime.
