One question the cooperative gets quite frequently is, “why is my bill never consistent?” or “why have my rates increased this month?”
It can fluctuate depending on the season, demand, and consumption. I want to explain those to you in more detail.

The Kansa Prairie Quilters of Oskaloosa, Kan. are set to host their third annual Quilt Show on Sat., Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oskaloosa School Library.
The group started in 1997 with a group of about 10 to 15 women who wanted to make a difference throughout Jefferson County. Meeting once a month at the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa and paying yearly dues of $20, the women plan community service events and create homemade items such as potholders, quilts, pillows, and more to be donated to a variety of organizations throughout Jefferson County, like God’s Storehouse, Hospice, and The American Cancer Society.
“We have fun working together to help others in our communities. It makes us feel good to know we are making a difference in others’ lives,” said Janet Shirely, the prairie quilters advertising chair.
The Annual Quilt Show is one of their biggest events of the year bringing in about 75 locals to raffle off a handmade quilt made by the group, “No Two Alike.” All proceeds of the raffle ticket sales will be used to support the numerous non-profit organizations in Jefferson County.
Raffle tickets will be $5 for six tickets or $1 for one ticket and can be purchased from one of the group members or at the show. Other boutique vendors and homemade items will also be available for purchase from local vendors.

More than 200 FreeState members had the opportunity to speak with vendors on information regarding their mental, physical and financial health over a provided meal by Ross’s Catering during the 9th annual Community Health Fair on September 26.
“This event is just one way we hope to help our members and the communities we serve,” said Steve Foss, chief executive officer. “Events like these not only provide valuable information to our members, but serve the community by getting local organizations together to bring awareness to several services, programs and opportunities the area provides.”
Businesses and organizations who participated this year were: Sam’s Club- Legends, Sam’s Club- Legends- Audiologist, First State Bank and Trust, United County Heart of America Real Estate and Action, FreeState Electric Cooperative, FreeState SmartHub, The Willow Domestic Violence Center, The Good Shepard, Taylor Insurance Services, LLC, Holland Eye Clinic, F.W. Huston Medical Center, Integrated Behavioral Technologies, Bright Smiles LLC, God’s Storehouse, Midland Care Connection, Accomplished Health and Wellness, Therapy Works, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence Memorial Hospital Community Education, McLouth Medical Clinic, Bank of McLouth, Physical Therapy Solutions, The Sexual Trauma and Abuse Care Center, McLouth Fire Department, Jefferson County Humane Society, Jefferson County Friends of Hospice, Jefferson County Health Department, Phillips Insurance, NEK-CAP Inc., and Fawn Delk with Monat.

FreeState Electric Cooperative is not regulated by the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC), therefore, does not participate in the Cold Weather Rule established that restricts electric disconnects between Nov. 1 through March 31, or when temperature forecasts are 35 degrees or below.
All delinquent accounts are subject to disconnection as temperatures during these dates are not a governing factor in disconnection for non-payment.
