The Future of the Performing Arts at Ballard High School is in Your Hands
|
|
Our Screens to Stage fundraiser is designed to close the gaps between minimum required music and theatre education and dollars needed to rebuild the award-winning programs—simply and quickly. We’re half way to our $20,000 goal thanks to the generosity of those watching our fall concert series. Thank you for giving; let’s keep this momentum going!
We typically hold a gala auction and dinner this time of year to raise a big part of our budget, but this year we are planning more inclusive fundraisers so all families can participate. This giving campaign and the wrap party replaces our auction, and raising funds is more important than ever. This is our major fundraiser for 2021.
Where will the money go?
- To fund the clinicians, specialists, coaches, and additional instruction time to work tirelessly with students to bring out the best of their artistry.
- To offer scholarships so all students who want to participate in the arts can afford to regardless of ability to pay.
- To pay for the extensive audio/visual needs required for livestreaming, which comes with the added bonus of expanding our audience.
After nearly two years playing remotely, we’re rebuilding the coffers and your giving is more important than ever.
In the past, the BPA Boosters Club has raised about $75,000 each year to fund the program and maintain our operating budget. We have some carryover from 2019, but in order to keep robust funding for future years, we need to keep raising money. (In case you’re wondering, these funds are also completely separate from the $24,000 the BHS Foundation raised this summer to make offering private lessons to all students more equitable.)
But fundraising last year — like many other things — was a challenge. While we brought in about $50,000 last year (most of which went to pay for additional zoom instruction to keep students engaged and audio/video instruction and performance support), we were shaking the change out of the couch cushions to get there.
On top of that, our side hustles are still gone. No more reserved seating. No more bake sales. Those two items brought in 15% of our budget and we have to find ways to replace those valuable funds.
Even more dire, we lost $10,000 in seat reservations at concerts, and $25,000 in musical and play tickets sales, which directly funds the theatre program.
How much can you give?
Think about how much you might spend to reserve a seat at concerts ($25 per seat) or how much you might spend at a bake sale. You can still make that gift and support the programs you care about.
If each of our 300+ families contributes $75 or more to our campaign, we would raise more than $22,000. $75 not in your budget? Make a gift that matters to you. Your gift, of any size, will keep the performing arts programs at BHS strong and vibrant.
We’re Halfway There!
As of Friday, November 6 we’ve raised about $12,000, but need another $8,000 to make our goal!

Orchestra
Fall Concert was Fantastic!
What a joy to see the string instrument groups play again after a long absence on stage. Orchestra Director Elizabeth Fortune said, “last night’s event was truly one of the most significant moments in my career. I will cherish the way it felt and the magic that these kids created on that stage last night forever. This is one proud music educator!”
