Westmoor Families-

It's been a warmer week so thankfully students have been outside for mask and movement breaks. Please continue to send students with snow boots and pants as long as we have snow.

Lately, Shannon road has gotten crowded due to the snow piles. Please remember that we prefer families use the carline as the designated arrival and dismissal pick-up, this also helps decrease traffic on Shannon for all our students that are walking. If you are using Shannon slow down, look for kids, and please obey all traffic signs.

Congratulations to all our Virtual Science Fair participants. This year our Science Committee had to get creative by using FlipGrid to create a space for students to share their work. Our participants are listed below.

Kindergarten: Aliza S., Claire R.
1st Grade: Emma V., Usman M.
2nd Grade: Deven S., Pierce L. , Olivia Y., Erica J., Alex J.
3rd Grade: Luca V.
4th Grade: Magdalena M., Sawyer R., Mia S.
5th Grade: Austin C., Evan S., Umair M., Anne L.

I've added links below for each grade level to view the science projects. Please use student Google credentials to access FlipGrid. Usernames are first name, last initial, day of birth, year of NBJH graduation. So Josh Smith, a first-grader whose birthday is on the 15th would have this username: [email protected]

Don't forget we are in school on March 1 due to the snow day this month!
Have a great weekend,
Mary

Summer School Information:
District 28 is currently planning to hold Summer School and Extended School Year (ESY) from June 9th through July 2nd. More details about registration will be coming in March. Check out the summer school website for additional information.

5th Grade: Math Problem Solving Assessment
As part of the comprehensive review process for sixth-grade math placement, all of our fifth-graders will participate in a math problem-solving assessment. The questions on the assessment will require students to construct answers and write about their mathematical thinking. This is different from the MAP test, which assesses math skills in a multiple-choice format. The CogAT test is different as well because it captures reasoning skills in a multiple-choice format. The problem-solving assessment will provide a snapshot of your child’s strategies and thinking. Together, the three assessments along with classroom performance will be used to determine course placement. Students will be given the math problem-solving assessment on March 3 during the school day. This assessment will be an hour in length, in paper-pencil format.
Student Drop Off/Pick up
With the snowy weather, we all need to have patience and take our time at drop off and pick up. Please DO NOT drop off your student on Cherry Lane. This is a safety hazard.
