April 2020
Dear Colleagues,

I recorded a video message for our Adelphi family in my home office and shared it with our campus community last week. I’m sharing it again today with all our students, families, friends, partners, alumni, and higher education leaders to remind everyone that we are in this together and Adelphi will come through it as an even stronger community.

Everyone at Adelphi University is demonstrating remarkable resilience, strength and agility in the midst of a rapidly spreading global pandemic and truly challenging disruption. This month’s stories highlight just some of what they achieved in a few short weeks as we safeguard our community and uphold our mission to offer a world-class academic experience. They also illustrate what we’ll keep doing as this crisis unfolds.

I deeply appreciate our entire Panther family, far and wide, for staying connected, caring, and committed to our goals during these historic times.

Stay safe and well.
All the best,
Christine M. Riordan, PhD
President
Our nationally recognized Bridges to Adelphi program quickly launched online support for students on the autism spectrum, offering consistency during this time of COVID-19 uncertainty.
Student counseling goes virtual: In this Q and A, Josh Altman, PhD, and Erin Furey from Adelphi’s Student Counseling Center share their vision and the virtual ways they are successfully helping students cope with the pandemic.
On the front lines of the pandemic: Three of Adelphi’s preeminent public health experts, including K.C. Rondello, MD, share what they are doing to keep communities safer.
Inside the switch to remote learning: The Director of Adelphi’s Faculty Center for Professional Excellence, Nathalie Zarisfi, describes how she and her team helped move 1,000-plus courses to a virtual environment.
Alumni making a difference
This month, I want to thank all our graduates who are “boots on the ground”—helping communities around the country and world fight the coronavirus pandemic. Thank you to all our alumni nurses, educators, social workers, psychologists, public health workers and business leaders. On behalf of all of us at Adelphi, I send you our deepest thanks and admiration for all you are doing.

A recent grad, Aimee Spitale, said it all in her LinkedIn post: "Proud to say that I have been working with the NYS Department of Health with COVID-19 testing in New Rochelle. The days are long, the shifts are tough, but it's a pleasure to work with such an incredible team during this difficult time."
