US Coast Guard Visits CCA
On Wednesday, May 19, Cape Cod Academy welcomed four members of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to our campus. Students attended presentations given by Lt. Robert Turley, Helicopter Pilot, Lt. William Martin, General Aviation Pilot, Mr. Russ Gasdia, Immediate Past Flotilla Commander Woods Hole, and Mr. Christopher Brown, Helicopter Mechanic. The pilots shared stories about how they arrived in the Coast Guard, one via the Coast Guard Academy and the other via Norwich Academy, as well as information about missions and daily activities. Mr. Gasdia spoke to students about boating safety, and Mr. Brown was able to reiterate the importance of what Mr. Gasdia was talking about from the perspective of someone who flies over the water in a helicopter, sometimes looking for missing persons. CCA wants our students, staff, and faculty to be safe on the water this summer in boats, canoes, kayaks, or paddle boards. Safety first! We look forward to a return visit from the USCG next year when they, hopefully, will be able to arrive in their helicopter on one of our fields.

Purchase Your Tickets to the Spring Gala & Auction

The Spring Gala & Auction is only two weeks away! We hope you plan to join us on Friday, June 4 at the Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville for an evening of celebration. You can purchase your tickets here. If you have questions or do not know what to expect, please click here to learn more about the event. This all-school fundraiser will feature dinner, music, plus live and silent auctions to benefit Cape Cod Academy.

A highlight of the Gala each year is bidding on our students' creative donations. Each lower school class is busy working hard to create a unique item for the auction.
Our fifth-graders are creating an original wall hanging that is a cut-out of Cape Cod and embellished with pin dots to mark their favorite spots on Cape Cod.
Our third-grade students are designing and creating a mosaic tile inside a beautiful distressed wooden serving tray.
Check out the amazing live auction items below.
New Tennis Program Coming to CCA This Summer
There is a new tennis program taking place at Cape Cod Academy this summer. Cape Cod Tennis, an organization run by tennis professional, Paul Braude, will be running a full tennis program for toddlers, children, teens, and adults at Cape Cod Academy. This will include memberships for play all season long as well as a variety of clinics. Please check out the details and dates here.
Summer at Cape Cod Academy
Free Swim Assessments
Cape Cod Academy is offering a variety of swim programs this summer. To help kick off the summer, the pool will be open for free swim assessments from May 28-31 to determine the most appropriate swimming class for each student's skill level. Check out dates and times here.

During the final week of May, we are planning to schedule time for our lower school students to enjoy the pool. On Friday, May 28, we are planning to have a Grand Opening of the pool from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Students will be able to sign up to swim during that hour—a fun way to kick off Memorial Day Weekend.

Wellness, Sports, Arts, Science, and Tutoring

In addition to swimming and tennis, Cape Cod Academy is offering a variety of programs on campus this summer: sports and wellness activities, arts & crafts sessions, science camps, and one-on-one tutoring. This year's new and expanded summer program will feature special discounted rates for CCA families. Check out all the programs, details, and registration links on our website. We hope you will take part in our new Summer Experience at CCA.

Spanish Guest Visits Lower School Students

This week, Dr. Clara Mesonero, an alumni parent, visited our lower school students to speak about Spain, its culture, and traditions. She showed the students where major cities were located on a map and shared pictures of cultural events, such as La Tomatina (the tomato throwing festival), the running of the bulls in Pamplona, and the Feria Sevilla in Seville, Spain. She also talked a little about bullfighting and the matador performing the dance with the bull. She brought some flamenco dresses with her, and several students learned basic steps and movements which they demonstrated on the stage.
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Sixth-Graders Raise More Than $2000 for South Sudan

Having read A Long Walk to Water and been inspired by Salva Dut, the young man
portrayed in the book, sixth-grade students in Mrs. Barbieri’s English class took part in
the “Iron Giraffe Challenge” to raise money for the non-profit organization, Water for South
Sudan. Together the classes raised $2,386.00. This money will bring hygiene education and supplies to a Sudanese village as well as purchase numerous water pumps. These pumps allow fresh water to be brought to the villages which provides multiple health and safety benefits and simultaneously allows girls who would normally have to travel miles for water to instead attend school. Congratulations to the sixth-grade class who has truly made a difference in the lives of others.
Math Presentations
by Sixth-Graders

This week, our sixth-graders presented their creative math projects. Each student chose a 3D object to make and then presented it to their classmates. This is the culminating activity for their study of surface area and volume.
