September 2020
A note from the Artistic Director
I will see you...... in September!
Hi everyone,

Well, life moves on and we simply must make decisions, right? So, we have decided to create a Virtual Adult Program online that returns on September 8th. Check out the schedule at atdf.org/virtual for a complete listing. Then, we also have a Youth Program that begins on September 20th. We plan to begin virtually and then hopefully open the center up with some "in person" classes followed by some outdoor classes over at the Hudson River Park. At least that IS the current plan. We will see.

PLEASE take special note and visit our website often for updates and special announcements concerning any and all future programming. In this current atmosphere anything could change and I'm proud to say that I think we are pretty much prepared to "PIVIT" at anytime and quickly if all of a sudden we are force to close up shop again, or return to virtual programming only, etc.

Meanwhile, I'm really enjoying presenting online content (past performances) that I am excited to share with everyone. My next Tap on Film presentation Salute to the Copasetics is coming up on Sunday, September 13th at 4pm est. Don't miss it. This is a concert that I produced and presented at Tap City 2011. WOW, what a treasure trove of appearances by everyone from Brenda Bufalino, Barbara Duffy, Derick K. Grant, Cartier Williams, Michelle Dorrance, Andrew Nemr, Deborah Mitchell, the list goes on and on....! Lot's of fun, and lots of history.

I'm very proud of this production as it reflects on and presents SO much material that was handed down directly from Brenda, Honi and the Copasetics.

Then on Friday, September 25th I'm presenting Tap TV again. This episode is a look back on the history of the Tap City Youth Ensemble! (See below) Can't wait to assemble some amazing footage for that!

Please also note that in my/our continuous partnership with the incredible Mercedes Ellington and her non-profit The Duke Ellington Center For the Arts, we have another virtual event that celebrates the partnership between the Duke and Louis Armstrong on Sunday, September 20th at 4pm. (see below)

Finally, I just want to say thanks to ALL of you that have recently contributed to the ATDF. It has REALLY helped us stay afloat, and I'm deeply indebted to some of our funders who have reached out and supported our efforts above and beyond the normal scope of funding by sending funding early during this crazy covid period. We are truly blessed with an amazing amount of support from numerous sources, and it is SO comforting that So many organizations and individuals have really stepped up to the plate and sent financial support unsolicited and in advance to help the ATDF through these very difficult and ever so strange times.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude and I am happy to keep the flame burning as long as humanly possible. I love Tap Dance and I want the best for our community.

Sept 20 - Dec 19, 2020

The ATDF Youth Program begins this season with options for BOTH dedicated virtual classes and small in-person classes in our studios.

Registration for returning students is in process now! Stay tuned for weekly updates.

We encourage early registration, but will work with families who need more time to decide how to choose their class options for the fall.

All students will start the season on Zoom for the first two weeks to establish fallback protocols for virtual study if needed.

And we’ll try to do a bit of outdoor dancing on tap boards in the park when we can!
