Virginia State Corporation Commission Approves 2.6 GW Offshore Wind Farm
The Virginia State Corporation Commission has granted approval to Dominion Energy for its 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, to be built some 43 kilometres off the coast of Virginia Beach. The developer filed plans for the USD 9.8 billion offshore wind farm with the Virginia State Corporation Commission in the fourth quarter of last year.
U.S. Offshore Wind: A Strong Fetch
Offshore wind in the U.S. Congress, already blowing hard, has now received a fresh gust with word of rapprochement between Democrats and Senator Joe Manchin, with the “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” seemingly back on course. The bill contains extensive provisions that would benefit offshore wind investment as the Biden Administration’s targets 30 gigawatts by 2030.
BNOW Reacts to Offshore Wind Component of Inflation Reduction Act
Sens. Joe Manchin, and Chuck Schumer, have reached a deal to include the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 in a reconciliation package. In reaction, Liz Burdock, CEO and founder of the Business Network for Offshore Wind, focused on the role that well-paying job support will have on offshore wind development in the country.
President Biden’s Executive Actions on Climate to Address Extreme Heat and Boost Offshore Wind
President Biden is announcing his latest set of executive actions to turn the climate crisis into an opportunity, by creating good-paying jobs in clean energy and lowering costs for families. His actions will protect communities from climate impacts already here, including extreme heat conditions impacting more than 100 million Americans this week, and expand offshore wind opportunities and jobs in the United States.
Opinion: Offshore Wind Developer Sensitive to Public’s Concerns
Enough clean, renewable energy for 750,000 homes in Virginia and North Carolina. Reliable, affordable power to add to our aging energy supply. Eight hundred annual new jobs. An investment of $1.5 billion in construction spending and $100 million in local tax revenues. This is what a project known as “Kitty Hawk Wind” can deliver.
More States Back Offshore Wind, Citing Economic Potential
Many states are looking to offshore wind as a key source of clean energy that’s essential in their fight against climate change. Other states are just looking to cash in.
Gov. Cooper Addresses Offshore Wind Potential at Elizabeth City Taskforce Meeting, Tours Dominion Energy Wind Turbines
Governor Roy Cooper joined Dominion Energy CEO Robert M. Blue to observe Dominion Energy wind turbines off the coast of Virginia and addressed the third North Carolina Taskforce for Offshore Wind Economic Resource Strategies meeting in Elizabeth City on Thursday.
Offshore Wind Farms Could Turn the Tide for Ocean Biodiversity
One potential solution to counter marine biodiversity loss has emerged from an unlikely source: offshore wind farms. In a world first, marine biologists last month planted coral larvae at the base of offshore wind turbines in an attempt to grow new reefs off the coast of Taiwan. In fact, the idea represents just one of a number of ways scientists are teaming up with wind developers to turn offshore wind farms into safe havens for biodiversity.
U.S. Offshore Wind WTIV Jones Act Compliance
Novel issues are arising around the construction of U.S. offshore wind farms, and in particular whether and to what extent the vessels involved in the construction of U.S. offshore wind farms will be required to comply with current U.S. laws – namely, the Jones Act – relating to flagging, manning, ownership and construction of vessels operating within the U.S. continental shelf.
Unions Jockey For Offshore Wind Leasing Wins in Hostile States
Unions are positioning themselves as a key part of the Biden administration’s goal to deploy 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030, pushing for worker-focused mandates while fielding questions about how it can be done, particularly in the waters off less union-friendly states.
New Crewing Mandate Could Be a 'Gut Punch' to U.S. Offshore Wind Projects
The U.S. House has this week passed the National Defense Authorization Act, in which it attached a provision that would change rules for manning offshore vessels in U.S. waters, with the goal of fostering American jobs in the U.S. offshore wind sector, however, the move could be counterproductive.
