Happy Fourth of July!
Did you know these facts about July 4th?
On July 4th, the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Jefferson. Though the vote for actual independence took place on July 2nd, from then on the 4th became the day that was celebrated as the birth of American independence.
In 1781 Massachusetts became the first state to make July 4th an official state holiday.
The tradition of setting off fireworks on the 4 of July began in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777, during the first organized celebration of Independence Day. Ship’s cannon fired a 13-gun salute in honor of the 13 colonies.
During the early years of the republic, Independence Day was as commemorated with parades, oratory, and toasting in ceremonies that celebrated the existence of the new nation. These rites played an equally important role in the evolving federal political system. With the rise of informal political parties, they provided venues for leaders and constituents to tie local and national contests to independence and the issues facing the national polity.
The tradition of patriotic celebration became even more widespread after the War of 1812, in which the United States again faced Great Britain. In 1870, the U.S. Congress made July 4th a federal holiday; in 1941, the provision was expanded to grant a paid holiday to all federal employees.
In the 20th century, the 4th of July is recognized as a national holiday marked by parades, concerts of patriotic music, fireworks displays, and a venue for politics. It remains a potent symbol of national power and of specifically American qualities—even the freedom to stay at home and barbecue.

PLACE OF HOPE FROM THE EYES OF OUR KIDS
|
|
Ever wonder what Place of Hope looks like from the eyes of our kids? We asked some of our kiddos to draw what Place of Hope meant to them. We just love what they came up with! They drew family and "home," trees and big smiles, they each wrote a word that expressed their feelings - "Love," "Laughter," and "Family." Our hearts are overjoyed! We hope yours is too, because you too are a part of these incredible lives.

Throwdown for the Kids is a charity Crossfit competition hosted by @TheCrossfitSquad to raise money for the children and youth in Place of Hope's daily care. The first year they raised over $7,000. Last year they raised nearly to $9,000! Owner and Coach, Derek Bishop says, "Our goal is to raise over $10,000 this year! We created Throwdown For The Kids because we want to make a difference in the world for kids who had little chance at a normal life. We raise these funds in hopes of bettering these children after being saved from trafficking. As a father I can’t imagine this type of thing and how it must affect a person. The least we can do is this."
Registration will be open soon! Want an added challenge? Let Place of Hope give you your own fundraising page and ask your friend and family to support you as you compete to Throwdown For The Kids! Email jamieb@placeofhope.com today!
