I am so excited to announce that our speaker tomorrow will be election law attorney Donna Davidson. Donna has been a fixture of Texas politics and governance for three decades. She is one of the state's foremost experts in election law and campaign ethics. Donna has served as counsel to many of Texas' elected officials, and was once the General Counsel of the Republican Party of Texas. Donna is an indispensable wealth of knowledge for our party and our elected officials and is quick to volunteer her time to both. Click here to read Donna's full bio.
Also joining us is Chad Ennis, with the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Chad Ennis is a senior fellow for the Election Protection Project and attorney for the Center for the American Future. Chad has previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana and as an Assistant Attorney General in the state of Texas.

The legislative session is coming to an end and I have enjoyed spending our Friday mornings together. We will be taking a break next Friday for Memorial Day and then our final call for the session will be on June 4th. Once redistricting work starts in the fall, I plan to start our weekly calls again, so keep an eye on your emails for more details on that! President Joe Biden lauded his new “American Jobs Plan” as strengthening American infrastructure. Who could argue with that? Unfortunately, the infrastructure narrative was a thin veil for the plan’s true nature—“a radical ideology that rejects free enterprise and basic economics, gambling that government is a primary driver for growth,” write a host of Heritage experts in the latest report on the plan. Talking Points: Biden-Harris’ Massive Taxation Scheme |

Just months into his presidency, Joe Biden has already proposed over $3 trillion in tax increases.

This is double what Hillary Clinton proposed, and is the largest proposed tax hike in recent history.
The third part of Biden’s American Bankruptcy Plan will cost taxpayers $1.8 trillion and is estimated to far outspend forecasts.
Biden’s American Bankruptcy Plan would:

This is higher than the rate in communist China and would make the capital gains rate the highest in a century for many.
Biden also wants to flood the IRS with $80 billion in new funding – a proposal even the IRS’s former Commissioner thinks would be overkill.

Biden’s IRS on steroids would “create new headaches for banks, financial institutions, and anyone who uses them.”

The plan would “require banks and other third-parties to report more information on taxpayers.”

Under the Obama-Biden administration, the IRS admitted to targeting conservative groups. Now, Biden wants to increase the power of unelected bureaucrats to collect huge amounts of additional information.
- Americans have to make sacrifices to accommodate higher prices.
Time and time again, Republican policies of lower taxes and deregulation have succeeded in growing the economy and raising wages.
Biden and Harris’ liberal policies will do the opposite: tax increases, higher prices, and trillions in new liberal, big government spending.

Joe Biden: The President of Crisis
The border, the economy, and the Middle East – all have been thrust into crisis by the failed leadership of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In just 115 days, the Biden Administration has turned stability into chaos on nearly every front.
What you need to know:
From Record Security to Record Failure: Biden’s Crisis at the Border
- The latest data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection reaffirms that the border crisis is worsening under Biden’s watch.
- In April, 178,622 illegal migrants were caught trying to cross the southern border – the highest one-month total in 20 years.
- This is a nearly 270% increase from the average number of April apprehensions during the Trump Administration.
- 17,171 of the over 178,000 illegal migrants were unaccompanied minors.
- Just 35% of family units were expelled during April.
- Biden has falsely said the “vast majority of the families” crossing the border are being sent back.
- This surge is overwhelming our U.S. Border Patrol agents.
- Border crossings are at a 20-year high and ICE deportations have fallen to the lowest level on record.
- 1,500 illegal migrants – a 50% increase from March – are entering the U.S. every day due to agents being overwhelmed with high levels of crossings.
- This is a humanitarian crisis. Many firsthand accounts of border crossings describe the horrors of human trafficking, sexual assault, and violence.
- Make no mistake, this is a crisis of Joe Biden’s creation.

From a Record Turnaround to a Faltering Recovery: Biden’s Economic Crisis
- Under Joe Biden, hardworking families and businesses are already feeling the squeeze of rising prices.
- Biden’s plan to bankrupt America – including his proposed $6 trillion in spending – would only make things worse.
- This would be the largest government expansion in decades and economists have warned trillions in new federal spending is a recipe for inflation.
- Consumer prices have jumped 4.2% over the 12 month period ending in April, the fastest pace since 2008.
- Consumer goods have spiked – including increased prices for toilet paper, diapers, soft drinks, plane tickets, and appliances.
- Grocery prices are rising. The Consumer Price Index for food rose 2.4% over the past year.
- Gas prices have surged and experts predict they are going to keep going up.
- Home prices have increased by an annual 17.2% in March – a drastic climb from the 3-5% annual increase which is considered healthy.
- Restaurants are having to raise prices due to higher ingredient prices.
- Manufacturers and construction businesses are facing skyrocketing prices for raw materials.
- Steel prices have tripled.
- Lumber futures have increased by more than 500%.
- Copper prices are an all-time high.
- Iron ore futures surged 10%.
- Economists across the political spectrum have sounded the alarm on inflation.
- Biden is undoubtedly squandering the recovery he inherited, and families and businesses are facing rising prices.

The unemployment rate rose in April for the first time during the recovery to 6.1 percent.

The economy added back just 266,000 jobs, which is well below economists’ expectations of 1 million jobs and the biggest miss in decades.
- Now is not the time for Biden’s $3 trillion tax hike and $6 trillion government spending spree.
From Peace to Violence: Biden’s Crisis in the Middle East
- Indiscriminate attacks from Hamas on innocent Israeli citizens prove that Joe Biden’s weak leadership is threatening the historic progress the Trump Administration made towards peace in the region.

Biden has failed to specifically condemn Hamas for these deadly attacks.
- Biden’s inaction has created opportunity for terrorist organizations like Hamas to attack our ally.
- Democrats have allowed vile anti-Semitic and anti-Israel sentiments to fester in their party.
- Democrats are increasingly calling for aid to be withheld from Israel.
- Outrageous comments from Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and other Democrats have led to growing anti-Semitism in the U.S.

Rashida Tlaib spoke to a group of protestors chanting Hamas’ slogan, “from the river to the sea,” as the terrorist group was attacking Israeli civilians.

As rockets were raining down on Israelis, Tlaib blamed Israel and said the U.S. was “enabling” them.

Many Democrats – including Kamala Harris – boycotted the AIPAC conference just two years ago.

The Republican Party stands with Israel, a nation that has every right to defend itself against violence and the barrage of rockets from Hamas.
The bottom line:
Biden’s failures stand in stark contrast to the leadership of President Trump and a Republican Congress. At the border, illegal crossings had sunk to a historic low, thanks to smart policies and hundreds of miles of border security wall. The United States economy had grown at record levels and achieved record low unemployment rates, thanks to lower taxes and less regulation. In the Middle East, countless peace deals brought the dawn of a new era, thanks to bold American leadership and fresh perspectives. All in the name of politics, Biden turned his back on these successful policies, and now Americans are suffering the disastrous effects.
