Say, "hi" to July!
Hi Neighbor,

June flew by because it was filled with so many celebrations. A few of those included the grand opening of Fire Station 37 and Pride Month.
In addition to a new fire station in our city, I'd like to show you the life-saving devices that are available in all front-line fire Engines, Trucks, and Rescue Medics across the City of San José. The device is called LUCAS 3 and provides uninterrupted chest compressions.

This month, crewmembers from San Jose Fire Department’s Bureau of EMS & Training and the Bureau of Field Operations - Engine 8, C joined us at the City Council Chambers for a demonstration of the LUCAS 3 device.
San Jose Fire Department responds to more than 1,000 cardiac arrest events per year. The deployment of LUCAS devices to all front-line apparatus has the potential to result in approximately 120 additional cardiac survivors each year.

As we approach the peak of summer, I strongly encourage you to keep yourself and your lawns cool. To escape the heat and protect yourself from the sun, visit a cooling center near you. And, remember to water when it's cool. Here are some tips on how you can be water-efficient this season.

I hope to see you at many of the upcoming neighborly events this summer!

Best,

Dev
City Council Updates
Parking Minimums

This month, I voted to address the City’s longstanding parking minimum policies. While the vote doesn’t represent a change in policy, it did direct City Staff to explore recommendations for updating these requirements.
It’s important to me that the City remains responsive to neighborhood parking concerns, and this will be a focus of mine when the issue is brought back to Council.
My Values Do Not Align with the Recent
Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Overruling
On Friday, June 24, the Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision. Now, women's right to have a safe abortion is at risk of being taken away. Personal liberty and equal opportunity are two of my strongest values and this new overruling puts those values at stake.

I am proud to say the women leaders in our community are united in our defense of a woman’s right to choose.

There is a Planned Parenthood Health Center in our District and it’s important to me that their patients and healthcare providers feel like San Jose is a safe space to provide safe health interventions. That is why I will be personally donating to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. I encourage everyone who values liberty and equal opportunity to do so as well.

My fellow City Council colleagues and I will continue to fight to ensure and protect people's rights to have a safe abortion in California.

Now, we are convening the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Arena Hotel. The first meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, August 11th from 6:30PM – 7:30PM and you must be in the CAC to participate.

San Jose Resources and Opportunities
Report Fireworks Online

While it is fun to celebrate this country, we should all remember to keep our community safe from injuries and fires caused by illegal fireworks. You can safeguard families and young ones by doing the following:

1. Snap: Take a photo or video of the person using illegal fireworks if you can safely do so.
2. Click: www.sanjoseca.gov/fireworks or visit the 311 mobile app on your smartphone.
3. Report: Complete the online report in as much detail as possible to assist the City with taking enforcement action.

All fireworks, even those labeled ‘safe and sane’ are dangerous and illegal to own, sell or use in San José. Fines for using illegal fireworks now begin at $1,000 and the sale of fireworks can cost up to $50,000 plus jail time, depending on the quantity. If you observe an active fire or experience a medical emergency, call 911.
