September 2020
Friends, I wanted to share a brief update with you about where things stand as we head into the start of our Sunday School year.

You may have noticed that this newsletter list has been quiet since last April. Shortly after the pandemic began, I began sending out weekly updates to current Sunday School families with Zoom links to our programming. The reason I made that switch is that I was, and still am, hesitant to share Zoom links over this e-newsletter, but I should have realized that there are many people who care about Children’s Ministry at Fourth Church that lost a window into what we were and are doing. For that, I am sorry—and I hope to let you know what we’re planning!
Sundays this Fall
9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
Zoom

Each Sunday for the foreseeable future, we’ll be gathering over Zoom from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. for a wide variety of online-only programming for Sunday School. If you’re curious what we’ll be learning about each week, you can find our lessons here.

9:30 to 10:00 a.m.

  • Nursery (Stories and Songs for 1- and 2-year-olds)

  • Cherub Choir (3-year-olds through First Grade)

  • Children’s Choir (Second through Fifth Grade)

10:00 to 10:25 a.m.

  • All ages together for Children’s Chapel

  • Singing, lessons, and worship

10:25 to 10:50 a.m.

  • Breakout into Sunday School classrooms by age/grade

  • Reading Bible, discussions, crafts, activities

10:50 to 11:00 a.m.

  • All ages back together for closing prayers and a hymn

If you have a child age 1 to 11 and have not been receiving e-mails about programming this summer, please e-mail mhelms@fourthchurch.org and we’ll add you onto our list!

Other Opportunities Later this Fall

We also are going to be experimenting with other ways to connect with families outside of Sunday School, whether by snail mail, parent gatherings, or family fun. These programs will hopefully be launching in October once we’ve settled into our Sunday School rhythm.

  • Boxes with crafts/activities mailed out to kids’ homes

  • TED Talk discussions for parents

  • Potential live speaker/small group gatherings for parents

  • Once-a-month “Family Day” at Sunday School

  • Halloween Family Night

We know it’s going to be a different and difficult year, but we’re hopeful that we’ll continue to find ways to connect as a church family. Blessings to you all—and more to come soon!
