MARCH 2021
The 1st month of the Tibetan Iron-Bull Year ends in the middle of March. The 2nd month of the Tibetan calendar begins on March 14. Our newsletter this month features our collection of Tsuktor Namgyalma prayer flags.
Tsuktor Namgyalma
The Tsuktor Namgyalma is the Tibetan name for Ushnishavijaya (Sanskrit). She is one of the special long-life deities of Buddhism in Tibet, China, Japan and Malasia. Her mantra is an exceptionally powerful Dharani for clearing away obstacles, sickness, stress and negativity. It promotes well-being, success and other positive qualities. A “Dharani” is a long mantra that is combined with an invocation of a deity. A transliteration and English translation can be seen in the Prayer Flag Translations section of our website.

This Dharani of Ushnishavijaya is said to have infinite benefits. It purifies negative karma and liberates beings from the lower realms. Shakyamuni Buddha taught the benefits of the Namgyalma mantra to the Four Direction Guardian Kings. On this prayer flag the Dharani is composed into a Mantra Mandala. Place these prayer flags on a mountain or in your yard and the whole environment becomes blessed, benefiting all the humans, animals and insects. All who are touched by the wind passing through the flag or even by the flag’s shadow are said to be purified of negativity, protected from the eight great fears and from rebirth in the lower realms.

THIS MONTH'S PRACTICE & NAGA CALENDARS
The Nagas have been listening to Dharma teachings during the first month of the Tibetan year – which lasts until March 13. They don’t like to be disturbed, so no offering should be made to them. The only day in the 1st month of the Tibetan year on which to make offerings is March 8 (Tibetan 25). This is Dakini day and is an excellent day to do Naga offering pujas.

The 2nd month of the Tibetan calendar (March 14 – April 11) is the Naga’s memorial month. They remember everything that happens during this time, good or bad. Since their memory is very strong at this time, if you make offerings on their offering days, the Nagas will always remember this and they will become your faithful servants and companions. It’s better not to make offerings on other days, for if you make offerings to them on their “dok” days, they will perceive your offerings as being rotten and foul smelling and they will abandon you.

There are six particularly good days to make offerings this month: March 20, 23, 28
Avoid making offerings to the Nagas on March 15, especially.
