Dear saints,

Well, here we are. A year ago today I wrote to you all to share that we were moving online as a church. Like many of you, I had hoped we might make it back inside the church building for Easter, or if not the summer. Little did we know then that we would start counting life with the coronavirus in years.

As anniversaries go, we might find it hard to know quite how to mark this weekend. I do hope that you see light ahead of you at the end of this tunnel. I certainly feel that way. Looking back, though, for my own part I will pause and remember that this has been a year of sickness for many and that we have lost over two and half million human souls because of it. I will remember them, believing wholeheartedly in the God who knows and feels the enormity of loss that every human heart bears. I will remember them, trusting that ultimately we are not alone even as some of us feel the pangs of profound loneliness and isolation. And in remembering I will hold onto the promise that says we are one, beloved human family of one, eternal God.

May this weekend be a time for you to remember, and pray, and reach out for the God who will always and evermore reach for us.

Peace,
Simon Mainwaring

Meditations in the Shadow of the Cross with the Rev. Natosha Reid Rice
Sundays, March 7, 14, and 21, 9:00-9:55 a.m., on Zoom
St. John’s Gospel has been described as a loving meditation in the shadow of the Cross. This explains, in part, Jesus’ flowing monologues as he sets his face toward Jerusalem. The cross also plays a central role in liberation theology, as God takes up the cause of the marginalized and the oppressed. Indeed, God on the cross shows us that Jesus speaks for, with, and to the crucified class, inviting us to do the same.

The MICAH Project: Lament
Sundays, March 7, 14, and 21, 9:00-9:55 a.m., on Zoom
Session 2: A Balm in Gilead: The Power of African American Spirituals in Lament with Trey Clegg

Over 400 years ago, enslaved Africans were brought to these shores as property. As the American economy's dependence on slavery grew, enslaved people were often forced to work from sunup to sundown under brutal conditions. As a coping mechanism, they turned to music which they created, known as Spirituals. These Spirituals, passed down by oral tradition, were sometimes referred to as "sorrow songs" even though all Spirituals don't sound sorrowful. We will explore the significant role that these Spirituals have played in the fabric of American culture, especially during the last year of lament.

The Stations of the Cross
Sundays, March 7 and 14, 9:00-9:55 a.m., on Zoom
All Saints’ has commissioned powerful art depicting the stations of the cross. These 14 illustrations of Jesus’ passion and crucifixion shine a light on his final hours, and invite the faithful into a somber time of reflection. Join us as we contemplate this art, prayerfully exploring a pivotal moment in the Christian story.

Artist Shanequa Gay will lead the session on March 14.

Jesus on the Front Page

Join this ongoing discussion of the news of the day and how we are called as Christians to respond in the public arena, in our private lives, and in our prayers.

Accompanying him on his mission is his best friend, Sancho, the Communist ex-mayor of the village who argues politics and religion with Quixote and rescues him from the various troubles his innocence lands him in along the way."

Giving
Sustain What Matters Most to You

Consider making a planned gift to All Saints’ today. Planned gifts—made from your estate plans—assure a strong church for the future. Over 200 members of All Saints’ have joined the Cornerstone Society by declaring they have included the church in their will or named the church as a beneficiary of an insurance policy or IRA.

Where does the money go? Into the All Saints’ Endowment Fund where a portion of the annual earnings pay for many of the church’s community ministries and special worship and music programs.

On Legacy Sunday, March 21, we will list the names of the Cornerstone Society members in the bulletin. Consider joining us and find a Legacy Intention Form on the giving page of our website: allsaintsatlanta.org/give.

Questions? Please contact Ellen Hayes, Director of Stewardship and Development, [email protected].

Grace Notes
An Amazing Story from Refugee Ministries:
A couple of weeks ago, a family of ten that is very involved with Refugee Ministries lost everything in an apartment fire.

While Refugee Ministries was working to help the family replace their furniture and lost items, the manager of the apartment complex reached out to ask for assistance for other families in the complex who had lost their apartments to fire.

Thanks to the generosity of donations from All Saints' parishioners, Refugee Ministries was able to provide new beds, bedding, kitchen supplies, towels, furniture, adult clothing, children’s clothing from Threads, laptop computers, backpacks, and school supplies to six families.

This support would not have been possible without the amazing work of members of Covenant Community who worked with Refugee Ministries to obtain and move furniture and supplies.

We’re also grateful for collaboration with the Welcome Co-op, an organization that provides furniture to refugee agencies for incoming families and Fully Furnished Ministries, an interdenominational ministry in Norcross that also provides furniture to families in need.
