Principal's Message

Last week, the GA COVID Planning Committee met to discuss and evaluate our current COVID policies and procedures. During this meeting, we discussed current trends in the number of positive cases of students inside the school as well as the number of students who needed to quarantine over the past four weeks. Encouragingly, recent data show a decline in both positive cases and needed quarantines. The committee is also encouraged by recent development in the availability of the COVID vaccine to children aged 5 and above.

While the committee is encouraged by recent trends and the availability of the vaccine, we are also cautious in making changes to our policies too soon. The cold and flu season is approaching, and many family/friend gatherings will be scheduled during the upcoming holidays. Also, the committee determined that more time is needed to see how the trend of positive students/quarantines needed progresses over the next weeks.

As such, the Planning Committee made a recommendation to the Education Board to continue with our current guidelines for the next four weeks. Last evening, the Education Board unanimously supported this recommendation, and we will continue with our current masking and distancing guidelines. This decision will be re-evaluated in four weeks and will be communicated to parents following our next Education Board meeting on December 7, 2021.

We continue to work every day to keep our angels safe and learning in-person! Please join me in thanking the GA staff for all they are doing to help your child and our school. We are blessed with an incredibly dedicated and talented staff!

God bless,

Corey Stoops

Join Us In Funding Future Angels This Giving Tuesday

Our school has allowed our Angels a magnificent place to grow for more than 100 years. Students leave our school with a strong Catholic core and are ready to compete with the top learners in a competitive academic world. Every year we strive to provide a top-notch education for all of our families.

Our school has done a phenomenal job keeping our students in school through the COVID pandemic, allowing them to learn in-person every day. But it is not just about staying on course; we strive to do better. Guardian Angels School has been a leader in technology for years and we are determined to continue Funding Future Angels. Our plans to help accomplish this in the coming year include creating a new STEM Makerspace for our students and upgrading the camera systems around our campus. Details for both are below:

New STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Makerspace

  • Add new worktables that are collapsible and movable and new complementing chairs
  • Convert one wall to customizable shelving and storage for makerspace materials
  • Installation of dedicated CAD computers
  • Installation of new 3D printers
  • Installation of new Laser cutting machine
  • Camera Upgrades

Make all existing cameras viewable via one simple web interface

  • True redundant 30-day motion event video storage
  • Allow for the support of IP cameras so higher resolution IP cameras can be powered/data connected with one network cable run
  • System can be accessed via the web without opening ports to our network to the internet
  • Swap current cameras with higher resolution cameras
  • Add new IP cameras to cover more areas of our campus

We are asking for your help to make these projects happen. This will be our school’s single largest fundraiser for the year.

Consider supporting Guardian Angels School on Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is the week after Thanksgiving. The nonprofit giving movement began as a way for people to give back to their community, after they’ve splurged on holiday shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We hope you prayerfully consider a donation to Guardian Angels on Giving Tuesday - November 30th. We also invite you to encourage friends and family to make a donation that supports your children’s education experience.

Be on the lookout for an email on November 30th with a specific link to donate to this one-day fundraising campaign. Donations made on November 30th, through our online platform, will not be assessed by the Archdiocese – meaning your entire donation stays with Guardian Angels. Offline donations (cash or checks) or donations made on a different day are not included in this assessment waiver.

Mission PSO Collecting Halloween Candy This Week

The Guardian Angels Mission PSO will be collecting candy for the children of the St. Bernard School on Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The students at the school and other boys and girls who live on the reservation, along with the elders look forward to receiving the boxes of candy every year. It is their biggest treat each year!

Students should bring in their extra Halloween Candy to school by Friday, November 5.

Pennies for Pies

Guardian Angels’ St. Vincent de Paul is asking for your spare change to purchase pies for Thanksgiving. The pies will accompany a food bag, filled with items from the school families and a Kroger card to purchase a turkey!

Many of our neighbors go without a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Thanks to your generosity, we will be able to deliver these meals to 120 families in the Mt. Washington area. The Pennies for Pies program will start on Thursday, November 4th. There will be a bag in each classroom to collect the spare change. These bags will be returned to the school office no later than Thursday, November 11th. A flyer is attached.

The classroom with the most change, will win a pizza party donated by the PTA! Good luck to all classes and remember to pray for our neighbors in need during the upcoming holiday season.

Picture Retakes Offered November 8th

Picture retakes will take place on Monday, November 8th. Students requesting a retake should simply return the original pictures on November 8th and the photographer will resubmit your order with the new image. Students who missed our September picture day, can also order online at mylifetouch.com - school code is EVTPXJ2RD. Any student who is having his/her picture taken on this day, may come out of uniform, but must follow the out of uniform guidelines stated in the Guardian Angels School Handbook.

Fathers Team Meeting This Friday

GA Fathers, join us this Friday at 6:05am in Conference Room B (next to the undercroft) as we discuss a subject that is meaningful for dad’s. This week’s topic: What Would I Tell My 20 Year Old Self Now? Do you take the time to reflect? How can use your past to change YOUR present and future.   Too often, we don’t realize how much the culture is leading us astray. We need to develop a plan to stop our susceptibility and refocus our priorities on what really matters. Come solo, or better yet, bring a friend! Mark your calendars to join us this Friday in person or optionally join via Zoom. Contact us at [email protected] for the zoom information.

Youth Group First Friday Meeting (Grades 5-8)

Join the parish youth group as we gather grades 5-8 on Friday, November 5th from 5:00-7:00pm. This month we will be continuing our theme of "Back to Basics" as we look at the destination of all Christian pilgrims on this earth - Heaven! This month's big event is a "Pumpkin Roll for the Holy Souls!" If you still have your jack-o-lanterns or other old gourds, bring them out and we'll have a "smashing" good time! Weather permitting, we'll also have a bonfire to close our time. Come join us and make a new friend! If you are not currently receiving Youth Ministry updates and would like to be added to our list, or have any other questions, please email Bradley Barnes.

Cafeteria Volunteers Needed

Calling all parents, grandparents and other SafeParish trained volunteers! We are still in need a few helping hands in the cafeteria over the next few weeks. We have consistently had 1 volunteer per day, but the increased social distancing measures have caused us to add more tables in the cafeteria. It would be tremendously helpful to have 2 volunteers per day to keep up with increased cleaning and monitoring of our angels at lunchtime. We are still looking for volunteers on the dates listed below:

  • Thursday, November 4th: 2 volunteers needed
  • Friday, November 5th: 1 volunteer needed
  • Monday, November 8th: 2 volunteers needed
  • Tuesday, November 9th: 2 volunteers needed
  • Thursday, November 11th: 1 volunteer needed

If you are able to help out, sign-up here.

Just a reminder: All volunteers must have transferred or be newly trained through SafeParish.

Lunchroom News

Kaldi's offers a hot lunch option every day for our students. All meals must be pre-ordered before 8:30am the day of service; this is done through the Ez-Parent website. Students will have the option to buy additional items during lunch, as long as they have an established account with a positive balance. To set up a new account, or manage an exisiting account, click here.

If you have questions regarding the lunch program, please contact Kaldis at [email protected].

The menu is available on the school website.

Cookie Ministry

Guardian Angels School Cookie Ministry teams up with the Parish Parish Peanut Butter group to feed families in need. The Peanut Butter group makes 1,500 peanut butter and bologna sandwiches. GA students donate cookies. St. Francis Seraph Church in Over-the-Rhine gives the food to families in need. Students are asked to bring in two dozen cookies, brownies, or rice krispie bars on their classroom's designated day. They do need to be bagged, two treats per bag. All preschool classes are responsible for the next donation on Monday, November 8th. Donations of juice boxes and prepackaged snacks are also needed. complete schedule for the school year is attached

Attendance Line

If your child will be absent or late to school, please call the main school office by 8:00 each morning. We recently upgraded our telephone system. In doing so, we removed the former “attendance line.” All parents needing to report their child absent or late to school should call our Office Assistant, Melissa Boston, using the main school phone number - 624-3141.

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
