Qualify for the 2021 World Show through ACAAP!
New in 2020
– you can qualify for the 2021 World Championship Appaloosa Show by competing in the Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activities Program (ACAAP)!
See ACAAP rules contained in the 2020
Official Handbook
of the ApHC for complete rules. This exciting opportunity is available in multiple class categories and are a great opportunity, especially for those who compete in hard-to-find disciplines like cutting, roping and jumping.

Avoid Rush Fees!
In these times of financial difficulty, the ApHC wants to do everything we can to alleviate extra expense for our members! With show season upon us, it is important that your Appaloosa be registered, transferred, advanced, or entered in the Performance Permit program prior to showing. We don't want you to have to pay a RUSH fee in order to have your registration work completed in time for your show!
While turn-around time varies based on a number of variables, the ApHC suggests an allowance of six weeks for registration work completion. Please contact us at least ten days prior to your show date to be certain your work will not require a RUSH payment to be completed in time. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised to find your processed work in your mailbox earlier than predicted! But, as the saying goes, better safe than sorry. We look forward to receiving your registration work!

If you or someone you know would be interested in donating an Appaloosa, we'd love to hear from you. We have an "exhibit pasture" on the museum premises giving summertime visitors the opportunity to get acquainted with our breed. Tickets are sold throughout the year and the drawing is held (usually) in October. In exchange for your donation of a raffle/exhibit horse you can receive a tax deduction along with the gratitude of all who appreciate and support the Appaloosa Museum.

Have you been #SpottedAtHome?
We’re all hanging out at home these days, but hopefully you are getting some quality time to spend with your Appaloosa! We want to stay in touch with you, so please share what you and your Appaloosa are up to at home using
#SpottedAtHome
Stay healthy everyone!

COVID-19 Guidelines & Rule Changes for Regional Shows
As regional shows begin to be held again with more regularity, ApHC has developed a set of COVID-19 guidelines for show organizers to consider when planning a show. Additional information is in the next issue of
Appaloosa Journal
but please use this as a check-list as you get organized for your upcoming show. It's important that we work together to provide shows that can be safely attended by exhibitors and that, as equine industry professionals, we set a good example for those in our industry to follow. Perhaps most important is that once you've identified appropriate protocols for your event, be sure to spread the word to all potential participants so that they may arrive at the show prepared to comply.
Additionally, the ApHC Board of Directors has made the following recent rule changes effective for 2020 only. These are in direct response to COVID-19 concerns for the show year.
- In western showmanship and English showmanship, judges and exhibitors must remain at least 6 feet apart to maintain social distancing guidelines. Therefore, exhibitors should be instructed to stop at least 6' from the Judge when setting up for and during inspection. Exhibitors shall not be penalized for stopping this distance from the Judge. Judges should be careful to maintain social distancing requirements when inspecting showmanship horses.
- Show management should eliminate any obstacle in trail or ranch trail classes that will be touched by all exhibitors (example gate, drag, mailbox, slicker, etc.). Judges should review patterns in advance of the show to ensure compliance with this requirement. The gate in trail classes is a required obstacle at National and World ApHC shows. However, the board of directors has voted to eliminate that required obstacle in trail classes at the upcoming World Championship Appaloosa Show and Youth World Show.
- Because there is no way to maintain social distancing in the rope race nor to have ropes at the finish line that would not be touched by multiple exhibitors, the ApHC board of directors has voted to withdraw approval for this class for 2020 and will not hold this class at the 2020 World Championship Appaloosa Show.

Make sure your registration application sails smoothly through the process by following these simple guidelines:
1.
Photographs:
- Photos must be printed on photo quality paper. For quality insurance, we strongly suggest you have them printed at a print shop instead of printing them on a home printer. Photographs are not accepted by e-mail or copies on regular copy paper.
- Photographs must be on photo quality paper and not larger than 4x6 inches (10.2 cm x 15.2 cm).
- Photos should be sharp and clear.
- Please verify that the horse’s markings are all identifiable.
- Include close-ups of all Appaloosa characteristics.
- Include close-ups of small markings such as snips or heel marks.
- Include photos of brands or scars. The whole horse must be visible in the photos, including the ears, hooves, and tail. Don’t cut off your horses head when cropping photos!
2.
Name choices:
Provide three options. Do not exceed 20 letters and spaces. Punctuation, special characters, numbers, or Roman numerals are not allowed.
3.
Sex of foal:
Check the appropriate box. If gelded or spayed, list date of surgery.
4.
Fees:
Use a current registration application or fee schedule to determine fees.
5.
Membership:
If you aren’t a current year member, include a membership application or non-member fees.
6.
Stallion Breeding Report:
Check to see that the owner of your foal’s sire has filed a Stallion Breeding Report, and that your mare’s name is listed on the report. Remind owners of non-Appaloosa stallions to file Stallion Reports as well.
7.
Listing fees:
Be sure the required one-time listing fee has been paid on all non-Appaloosa stallions and mares.
8.
Genetic testing:
The sire and dam of your foal must have DNA on file with the ApHC. If your foal is to be parentage verified, the foal must also have DNA on file. Contact the ApHC or consult the current Official Handbook of the ApHC regarding DNA, HYPP and other genetic testing requirements.
9.
Breeder’s Certificate:
For each mare bred, a Breeder’s Certificate must be completed by the stallion owner. Don’t tamper with the signatures or dates of breeding, as this will necessitate a new Breeder’s Certificate being submitted. Breeder’s Certificates which have missing, incorrect or incomplete information will cause delay processing the registration.
10.
Signatures:
All lines with an “X” must contain proper signatures. Inadequate or omitted signatures will cause a delay in the processing of your registration.
11.
Transfers:
If the applicant foal is to be registered to anyone other than the breeder, a completed transfer along with the appropriate fee must accompany the application.
Please refer to the Official Handbook of the ApHC for all rules and requirements for ApHC registration or contact the ApHC Registration Dept. at 208-882-5578, ext. 300.
