Old McHenry Road Closures Begin Monday, November 8
for Culvert Work
Old McHenry Road in Long Grove and Hawthorn Woods will be closed for culvert replacement by the Lake County Department of Transportation beginning Monday, November 8 at the start of the morning commute. Detours will be on Quentin Road and Route 22. Local traffic will have access to Old McHenry Road from Route 22 northwest to Darlington Drive, and from Quentin Road east to Hawthorn Drive. The work is expected to be complete by Sunday, November 21, weather permitting.
S. Krueger Road Project Completed

Earlier this fall, road paving and sewer culvert improvements began on S. Krueger Road between Cuba Road and Route 22, and the project is now complete. The Village of Long Grove partnered with the Village of Kildeer and invested $60,000 for the portion of the road adjacent to the Beaver Creek Estates Subdivision. With the construction season coming to an end, this marks the last Village road construction project for 2021.
Green Corridor Coalition Hosts Outdoor Event at Heron Creek Forest Preserve This Sunday
A free outdoor event hosted by the Green Corridor Coalition is set for this coming Sunday, November 7 at Heron Creek Forest Preserve from noon until 4 p.m. The Open Space Celebration includes pumpkin composting through SWALCO, live music and arts and crafts for children. The Green Corridor Coalition celebrates the open space available to Chicago area residents due to the foresight of those who came before us. The Coalition is made up of groups including the Audubon Society, Sierra Club, Midwest Sustainability Group and others who promote and support a green environment. Registrations are encouraged. Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday, November 7
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is practiced around the world to save energy and to utilize more daylight when days get shorter in the fall. On Sunday, November 7, DST ends and we ‘fall back’ one hour starting at 2 a.m. – so be sure to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night!

Did you know? According to timeanddate.com, DST was first practiced in Canada in 1908 and is now used in more than 70 countries around the world. It affects more than one billion people yearly, and the beginning and end dates vary by country.
Household Chemical Waste Collection Events
The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) will host three household chemical waste collection events this month. The events will take place at the SWALCO facility at 1311 N. Estes Street in Gurnee and are by appointment only. Participants are required to stay in their vehicles as items are removed by SWALCO representatives. The first event will take place this Saturday, November 6. Please visit this link for additional November dates and a list of accepted items.
Turkey Trot Coming Up on Thanksgiving
The 14th annual Long Grove Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 25. The Kids Dash starts at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K and 8K kick off at 8:30 a.m. A number of local streets will be affected by this event. Vintage Holidays in Long Grove
Downtown Carriage Rides: The ever-popular Vintage Holidays' horse-drawn sleigh will take you on an enchanted journey through the downtown every weekend beginning November 20 and ending December 19. The sleigh is divided into two sections and can seat a maximum of 12 people. The cost to reserve one section of the sleigh (maximum of six people) is $15, or reserve an entire sleigh for $30. Reservations are required and spaces fill up quickly. Click here to make a reservation.
Holiday Caroling and Santa: During weekends from November 20 through December 19, visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of the season as carolers stroll downtown walkways and twinkling holiday decorations adorn the shops. Be on the lookout for Jolly Old St. Nick who will join the holiday festivities.

Merchant Open Houses and Promotions: Merchants throughout the downtown will feature sales and specials on merchandise, food, drinks, and more throughout the Vintage Holidays campaign. Beginning November 26 and running through December 19, anyone who spends $150 before tax/tip at any of the downtown merchants will receive a free gift from the Long Grove Visitors Center (maximum of four gifts per person, receipts must date between November 26 and December 19, and are available while supplies last).
