A special thank you to the elementary music staff for the efforts in putting together a Holiday Sing Along that took place for all elementary students this past Friday. A special appearance by Superintendent Dr. Prijatelj.

Operation Our Town Essay Contest
Each of us has experienced peer pressure at some point and time in our lives. Making the right decisions can be difficult and for young people it can be especially difficult not to give into peer pressure when it relates to decisions about drugs and alcohol.

Congratulations to Courtney Irwin, 8th grade student at AAJHS, for her award winning essay in the Operation Our Town Essay Contest. To read Courtney's essay, click the link below.

Learning Express Preschool Festive Sweater Theme Days

LEX students and staff were invited to participate in Festive Sweater Days.  Staff donated $1 to participate. For every student that wore a festive sweater on December 16 and 17 to their class’s live zoom sessions, Principal Nichole Carroll donated $1 on their behalf. Over 50 students participated. LEX raised $170.00. All proceeds will be donated to the Family Homeless Shelter operated by Altoona Family Services. Lisa Hann from Altoona Family Services will be accepting the donation.

There will be no distribution on Wednesday, December 30. The program will resume with the next pick up on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
The Spirit of the Holidays
AASD Title I Teams worked to bring holiday spirit to the homes of elementary age children over the last few nights! Throughout the evening, children heard stories read by Title I Teachers and even heard from guest readers like the Principal. Tips were shared to keep reading happening at home over the holiday break and families enjoyed making a holiday craft together. This evening was a fun way for families to learn more about the importance of reading and spend time together!
Season of Light Holiday Sky Show
For the first time, the Neil Armstrong Planetarium offered a virtual showing of the Season of Light holiday sky show on Friday, December 18. The show was offered at 6:00, 7:00, or 8:00PM.

Congratulations to Mr. Krug for a successful evening. Families were able to gather in the safety of their home to watch the show together.

Juniata Gap Elementary spread some holiday joy this past week!

As part of the Rocket Tree Program, seven Juniata Gap families were sponsored for the season.
Families received wrapped gifts of clothing, coats, hats & gloves, and other special items (i.e. books, toys). Each family also received bags of food (i.e. pasta, soup, rice, vegetables, cereal) this year. This program is very special because it is completely funded by the staff and PTO and all of the donations go straight to Juniata Gap Elementary families. Teachers select a random student and purchase him or her an item. Families either pick up their items or staff members make a special delivery.
