Congratulations to the UCSF Fresno Wilderness Medicine Fellowship program and program director, Dr. Susanne Spano, for receiving GME Fellowship Certification from the Wilderness Medical Society.
Drs. Patil Armenian, Danielle Campagne, and resident Dr. Saajan Bhakta have been hosting an EMS podcast for Fresno’ s local EMS agency, American Ambulance, every other week.In the era of COVID, CE for EMS stopped since it has traditionally all been done in person in the past. This succinct, evidence based podcast has been helping provide continuing education to our front line EMS personnel here in Central California.
Dr. Brian Chinnock served as Chairman of the UCSF Fresno Research Resumption Committee, which drafted rules for restarting research at UCSF Fresno.

Dr. Patil Armenian talked to KVPR’s Kerry Klein about life as an EM physician during the COVID-19 pandemic. “’The Storm Has Definitely Hit’ – Fresno ER Doctor in Rising COVID-19 Cases.”
Dr. Kenny Banh was featured in UCSF Magazine’s article “Healing the San Joaquin Valley.” He shares his experience as a UCSF Fresno physician fighting both COVID-19 and inequity. 
 
Dr. Banh was pictured on the front page of The Fresno Bee in an article, “Here’s how leaders will spend millions in COVID-19 relief month in south Fresno,” as he participated in the first mass testing event for COVID-19 in southwest Fresno during a June 13 event. Drive-through and walk-up tests were offered, along with 3,000 free facial masks.
Medwatch Today interviewed Dr. Manavjeet Sidhu, who shared videos on the differences between N95, regular masks, cloth masks, and their impact on oxygen levels. 
Dr. Lori Weichenthal was interviewed for UCSF Fresno’s e-newsletter, Focus on UCSF Fresno. The interview covers Dr. Weichenthal’s interests, accomplishments, and some other fun tidbits of information.

The awards were announced at UCSF Fresno’s virtual commencement ceremony on June 11.

Graduating resident, Dr. Mackensie Yore, received UCSF Fresno’s Borba House Staff Research – Resident Award for her research project, "Vaginal Self Sampling Is Not Inferior to Provider Endocervical Sampling for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Diagnosis."

Graduating fellow, Dr. William Chiang, received UCSF Fresno’s Borba House Staff Research – Fellow Award for his research project, “Backpack Weight and its Influence on Perceived Exertion in Recreational Hiking.”

Dr. Lily Hitchner organized a successful virtual Intern Bootcamp for UCSF Fresno’s interns on June 18.
Staff Announcements
Ariana Zaghmouri has joined the UCSF Fresno DEM, effective July 20, as the Residency Coordinator. Ari has been with UCSF Fresno since 2015 as a Residency Coordinator for Internal Medicine and served as the interim Residency and Fellowship Supervisor for a year. She previously held positions at DeVry University, Encourage Tomorrow, and the Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Art and Science. Ari holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from California State University, Fresno. Ari obtained TAGME certification from the National Board for Certification Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education in September 2019, demonstrating her commitment to the role of residency coordinator and expertise in graduate medical education. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing co-ed softball, crafting and sewing.
