The Northwest Campanologist
Vol 12. No.3 March 2021
From the Chair
This has been quite the sad week. We recently learned of the passing of one of our greatest composers and conductors, Carl Wiltse. Carl had been ill for quite some time but had still spent his time enriching others' lives with his beautiful compositions and traveling from his home in Scotland to direct us at The Bayview Week of Handbells every August. He also contributed his talents to his village of Kirhudbright, whether they were vocal or instrumental. He and his wife of many years, Pamela, really brought their joy everywhere they went.
For those of us who were lucky enough to call him friend, he sent a Christmas Carol with their yearly newsletter and it was always special to receive. The dent left in the handbell world by Carl Wiltse's passing can be felt very strongly. I know it will be quite some time until my heart recovers.

Is there someone in your handbell world who you would miss desperately if they were gone? TELL THEM. Is there someone whose talents you appreciate every day but do it silently? TELL THEM. Is there someone who always goes the extra mile at handbell practice? THANK THEM. I had thought about traveling to see Carl and Pamela in Scotland countless times over the past two years but just thought, "I'll get around to it". Well, then the pandemic hit and now it is too late. I still remember Carl's wonderful voice when he sang and the glow on his face when he conducted a handbell choir. We were lucky to be alive to enjoy his talents. Recognize the people you know and love for their talents!

Ring with love and stay safe,
Barb
