This is an email to CRN’s Board of Directors, Legal Committee, Regulatory Affairs Committee, Retailer Standards Working Group, and Retailer Relations Forum:
Today, Amazon published updated dietary supplement standards on Seller Central. Amazon’s original standards were set for a compliance date of early August, however, the company extended that date to make changes to its standards after FDA raised concerns about sexual enhancement and weight loss products sold on the website. CRN is still reviewing what these changes could mean for members, however, the new standards appear to be largely similar to the old standards – requiring companies to provide a COA from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab or an in-house laboratory located in a facility that has undergone a specified GMP audit. Amazon will also except certification from certain third-party programs, such as a NSF, USP, or UL program certification, in lieu of the above requirements.

There are enhanced requirements for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and weight management supplements, including that a COA must be from an ISO/IEC 17025 lab and test results must be included for specific contaminants.

The new requirements page includes a detailed analysis of what information must be included in a COA for all products, how to submit information, and a Q&A section. CRN has reached out to Amazon about compliance dates and whether Amazon would provide additional training to companies on submitting documentation.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns about the updated policy.
