Apex Trail Management Change Begins this Thursday
A new management plan will be implemented by Jefferson County Open Space at Apex Park beginning Thursday, September 10, with the goals of improving safety and visitor experience. This plan applies an even/odd designated use schedule to trails in the southern portion of the park and implements directional use on BIKE ONLY days.
Affected trails include: Enchanted Forest, Magic Mountain, Poco Calle, Rocker, Paydirt, and Smelter.
- Even calendar dates (2nd, 4th, etc.) = Bikes only, no hikers or equestrians
- Odd calendar dates (1st, 3rd, etc.) = Hikers and equestrians only, no bikes

Heart of Golden 2020 - Upcoming Neighborhood Meetings
The Heart of Golden 2020 project is an exciting opportunity for the community to help us envision a Clear Creek Corridor for the future! COVID-19 slowed the project down, but it continues on and we hope you will engage with us and share your ideas and dreams for the Heart of Golden! We are hosting neighborhood-specific engagement meetings. These meetings will be held virtually and will present an opportunity for you to give feedback as we refine the design options that are a result of the visioning phase.
The 8th, 9th & 10th Street Historic District is invited to participate in our first meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at 6 p.m.
The 12th Street Historic District neighborhood meeting will be Tuesday, September 15 at 6 p.m. For more information about the neighborhood meetings, the project, and to register to participate in the online meeting for your neighborhood, please visit the Heart of Golden 2020 project page.

Golden History Museum and Park

The Golden History Museum & Park is open and free every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. by reservation (up to two weeks in advance) or walk-up. Make a reservation to visit by calling 303-278-3557.
- Golden History Museum currently has the following exhibits on view in The Salon and upcoming:
- Foothills Art Center Open Studio: Communal Creativity - on view through September 28
- Nikki Nienhuis: Abstractions - on view September 30 to January 5
- GHM&P's recent program "Legendary Ladies: Notable Western Women" will air on C-SPAN on Sunday, September 13 at 2 p.m.
- The Museum has been fielding many inquiries about racism in Golden's history, specifically related to Ku Klux Klan activity in the 1920s. The Museum was recently gifted copyright to the book "Castle Rock and the KKK" by Todd Lowther, a Golden native whose father served as City Manager in the 1950s. A fascinating work of historical fiction, the story contains multiple actual biographies and gives historic context. The entire book can be accessed and read for free on the Museum's online collection page. A number of copies will also be available for purchase in the Museum's store.

Community Pride Days Postponed to 2021
In the interest of public and staff safety during this pandemic, City staff has made the difficult decision to postpone Community Pride Days until next year.
A date is currently being finalized for a branch collection event this October, however. As soon as a date is set, we will announce it here, on the website, and on social media.

Heart of Golden Elected Official "Alumni" Group
The Heart of Golden process is continuing to develop ideas and priorities for the Clear Creek corridor. The City will be holding conversations with stakeholders in September. One community resource we would like to tap into are the residents who have served in Golden on the City Council or on a board or commission. The Golden Gallop Goes Virtual!
In a year that has seen almost every event canceled, the Golden Gallop says, "When you can't do what you do, you do what you can!"
Sponsored by the Golden Schools Foundation (GSF), the Golden Gallop is an annual fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting key programs, enrichment grants, academic boot camps and other programs at our local Golden schools. As schools adapt to changing public health guidelines and added expenses due to the COVID-19 crisis, the support of the GSF is as vital as ever. GSF hopes to expand their existing programs this fall to address the mental wellness impacts of the pandemic on our students, as well as helping to fund unforeseen expenses related to potential remote learning situations. The needs of the schools will also be compounded by the anticipated state budget cuts to education funding. So turn out for our students! Although there will not be an actual race day, nor a race expo, the folks at Golden Schools Foundation is still hoping for a great turnout of support with the same 5K, 10K, and Kids Fun Run, PLUS the New VIRTUAL Challenge. What is a virtual race? It's an independent version of the Golden Gallop that allows you to complete your run whenever and wherever you would like during the official Golden Gallop virtual race window. Learn more about how you can participate! All ages are encouraged to participate and even furry friends are welcome this year! The "virtual race" will be open from September 11 to September 20 and can be completed wherever you choose. Choose from four different events: - Virtual 5K

- Virtual Kids Fun Run - One mile or whatever distance you choose to just keep it FUN!
- Introducing the GG Virtual Challenge to run both the 5K AND the 10K and receive a free limited edition neck gaiter in addition to your race t-shirt!

City Hall open to the public by appointment only
City facilities are open by appointment only, Tuesday through Thursday. Please use our contact list to speak with, or make an appointment with, the city department you need.
Masks are required to enter city facilities, and we ask that only the people with appointments come inside. We will continue to provide timely and quality service.

City Meetings online until further notice
All regularly scheduled meetings of the various Boards and Commissions, as well as City Council meetings, will take place virtually until further notice. Details for viewing or participating in public meetings are listed at the top of the agenda for each meeting. The agendas are located at www.cityofgolden.net/Agendas. For meetings with a public comment period, you will also find on the agendas the instructions for providing your comments. In some cases, there will be opportunities to provide your comments live during the online meeting. In other cases, there will be an email address to which you can send your comments ahead of the meeting. Not all meetings will have live public comment opportunities.

The Economic Development Commission will meet virtually tonight, September 8 at 6:30 p.m.

BRC Home-based Businesses Focus Group
The Jeffco BRC is inviting home-based business to participate in a focus group on Thursday, September 10 at 2:30 p.m. to assist them in learning about issues related to the COVID -19 impact on home-based business. This will assist the BRC in the development of an appropriate application for home-based businesses needing assistance during this difficult time.
For the discussion please understand the Federal guideline requirements for assistance for COVID-19 related expenses incurred from March 1 to December 30. Under the CARES Act, funds may be used to cover expenses that:
- Are necessary expenditures incurred due to the COVID-19 public health emergency;
- Were not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020; and
- Were incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020 and ends on December 30, 2020.

City Council Regular Meeting & Executive Session
City Council will meet virtually Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m.
To view the special session, there are several options:
- Live-streamed at www.cityofgolden.net/Agendas - Find the meeting in the schedule and click "VIEW EVENT". This option will only be available once the meeting has begun.
- Live-streamed on GCO.tv - Find the meeting in the schedule on the right and click the "WATCH" arrow.

To provide public comment there are two options:
- Comment in advance: Email your comments to [email protected] by 5 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
- To provide comment live, you must pre-register for the meeting by 5 p.m. on the day of the meeting. You may either register for general public comment or register for public hearing comments .
You will receive a "Registration Approved" email with a link to join the meeting. At the time of the meeting, click that link. You will be called upon to speak during the general public comment period, or during the public comment period for the agenda item you have indicated your interest in, if that agenda item has a separate public comment period. You will have three minutes to speak and will be cut off at the end of three minutes.
At this time, live public comment is only available through the WebEx portal. If you are not able to access it, please email your public comments.

2020 Utility Replacement
- Sewer main replacement on Pinal Drive from Mt Zion Drive to Smith Road began the week of July 27 and continues. Local traffic detours are expected.
