In honor of ALS Awareness Month, we'll be sharing news weekly during May about the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS efforts to accelerate a cure for ALS.
PERSONALIZING PATIENT CARE
In the Healey Center’s ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic, we are dedicated to delivering the care each individual with ALS needs, where and when they need it. We are the largest ALS clinical center in the United States; and offer 24/7 access to the most up-to-date clinical therapies and multidisciplinary programs including physical, respiratory, occupational and speech therapy and social services. In addition, we provide integrated, timely, targeted and compassionate care for patients and families, working together to navigate the complexities, both physical and emotional, associated with ALS. Engaging patients in clinical trials is a distinguishing factor of our ALS Multidisciplinary Care Clinic. We are the only ALS clinic with a dedicated Research Access Nurse who actively discusses clinical trials with patients and connects them with appropriate trials at Mass General and around the world. Our House Call program, made possible by philanthropy, facilitating clinic visits in patients’ homes. This allows our providers to more personally address the complex social and emotional needs of our patients but also of their caregivers. Learn more about the House Calls program in the video below.
ALS NURSE HONORED FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE
On March 3, 2021, Darlene Sawicki, MSN, NP-BC, became the first nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital to be formally recognized for the critical role nurses play in the lives of people living with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and their families. Read the full story.
