Annual Meeting 2022: Rich Creation Care Connections for All
Members of the Creation Care Team were delighted to meet with delegates and visitors at the Wisconsin Conference Annual Meeting in Green Lake.

Thank you for sharing your dreams and for your commitment to this Kairos Call to Action moment. We are now into the third year of this 10-year commitment to become an ever-larger part of the solution to the climate crisis. Clearly, your stewardship of Earth is bringing new vitality to the mission of many of our congregations.

Congregations Urged to Join Community Water Cleanups

A great way for congregations throughout Wisconsin to participate in a common creation care effort is to join in with local community water cleanups. We provided an extensive resource list to visitors to our booth. Read more here.

Apply now for Kairos Grants for Creation Care Projects

The Creation Care team is announcing another opportunity to apply for Kairos grants. The team received another Catalyst Grant this spring, and is now ready to award the grant funds for Creation Care projects at our local congregations.

Instead of having a fixed application period and deadline, the grant period will be an open process, and applications will be accepted at any time. Grant awards to eligible projects will be made (up to $1000) as long as our current allotment of funds remains.

Eligible projects include any work that advances care of Creation such as: faith formation activities, resource conservation efforts, church and community projects, or energy efficiency, etc. Past grants have been awarded for community organizing around care of the Earth, speakers on key environmental topics, solar panel and LED lighting installations, native plantings and pollinator gardens, etc.

Congregations who receive grants will be assigned a member of the Creation Care Team for advice and support through the duration of the project and will be asked to make a report when their project is completed. The report should include photographs, description of what was completed, narrative of how the project is impacting the congregation, who was involved in the project and any insights and advice that could be shared with other congregations. The Creation Care team would also appreciate periodic progress updates, and photos and articles for the Kairos newsletter.

To apply for a grant, complete the application and return it to Lisa Hart at the Conference office. Future Kairos newsletters will provide details on newly-funded projects, and the availability of remaining grant money.
Become an Advocate
A recent ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court ties the hands of the Environmental Protection Agency. If you would like to channel your frustration and anger over this decision, consider joining the Advocacy Working Group of our Creation Care Team. We are seeking ways to help congregations and individuals in the Wisconsin Conference to lift their voices in support of local, state and federal policies that protect God's Earth. If interested in being part of this chorus, contact John Helt.
